Ryo had a penalty imposed by the adventurers' guild.
"Complete three requests within two months."
The first of these was the escort mission to Whitnash, undertaken with the three from Room 10 and the coffee makers.
In fact, an escort request for a round trip is treated as two separate requests, meaning it counts as completing two requests.
Since this is an internal processing matter of the guild, the requester does not particularly need to be aware of it and will not incur any disadvantages.
That said, for adventurers who have to complete a certain number of requests for various reasons, this is indeed a very appealing request.
And Ryo fell into that category of adventurers.
In other words, as long as he completed one request within the next month and a half, he would be fine.
For that reason, Ryo was not at all anxious and had been coming and going to the North Library, the Feast Pavilion, or practicing at the knight order’s training grounds…
"Ryo, I need your help with something."
"Huh?"
That day, after finishing a mock battle with Sera at the knight order’s training grounds in the afternoon and returning to the dormitory, Nils bowed deeply and requested something from him.
"You need help with something?"
To summarize Nils' explanation:
His childhood village had issued a subjugation request to the adventurers' guild.
Since the request ranks were c rank and d rank, they could not accept it with just their e-rank party.
If the d-rank Ryo would form a temporary party, they could take on the d-rank request.
The targets for subjugation were goblins and skeletons that had been appearing near the village.
"Goblins and skeletons?"
(At last, the main characters of a fantasy world alongside goblins! The skeletons are appearing!)
"However... why goblins and skeletons? It's a strange combination, isn't it?"
"Yes. Those two types fundamentally inhabit different areas. Well, I’m not sure if you can even say skeletons inhabit a place."
That was Eto speaking.
For Eto, a priest, skeletons, being undead, were sworn enemies... or at least, Ryo assumed so.
Thus, he would likely be the most knowledgeable about skeletons among them.
"The places where skeletons appear are typically graveyards, abandoned temples or shrines, abandoned buildings, and possibly abandoned mines. Nils, does your village have any of those locations?"
"There is a graveyard. That could be it... The request document didn’t provide detailed explanations about that area. Originally, this subjugation request was first made to the City of Kairadi. Kairadi is the closest to the village after all. But the request came around to the City of Run without being fulfilled..."
"Even though it’s a request to subjugate goblins and skeletons, how is it still unfulfilled in Kairadi...?"
Eto was also scratching his head.
It is common knowledge that goblins are weak. Setting aside the great tsunami.
Skeletons are not particularly strong either; a f-rank adventurer could easily defeat them one on one, and with a priest’s area purification magic, turn undead, even if there were dozens of skeletons, they wouldn’t fall behind.
Because of this, it was hard to comprehend the situation of "the request remains unfulfilled."
"Well, for starters, I think we’ll need to stop by the Kairadi guild to hear the situation."
"How long will it take to get there?"
"One day to Kairadi, one day to the village, around three days for the request, so I think it will take about seven days round trip."
After saying this, Nils looked at Ryo with a face that seemed to ask if he would accept it.
"I'm fine with accepting it."
"Really?! Thank you!"
"However, I have a mock battle scheduled with someone tomorrow, so I’ll need to go and cancel that. After that, we’ll go to the guild to apply for a temporary party and accept the request, if that’s alright?"
Ryo didn’t have any deep meaning behind it, but the three who heard about the canceled plans for tomorrow were shocked.
"Ryo is having a mock battle...?"
"Is such a person really in the City of Run?"
