"Can they really control even a wyvern?"
Prince Lyun muttered, his face twisted as if he had bitten into a bitter bug.
He had anticipated this.
He had, but it was the worst possible scenario.
It was only natural.
Wyverns were entirely different from goblins or ogres, even from demons.
One could say that their status as monsters was on a different level altogether.
Prince Lyun looked towards a corner of the main camp.
There were his aides, but the one he was most interested in was already gone.
It seemed they had moved as soon as the wyvern was confirmed.
"Ruyao, I’m always causing you trouble."
Prince Lyun's muttering went unheard by anyone.
The moment it was confirmed that the flying object launched from Shuntai Castle was a wyvern, Captain Ruyao took action.
Of course, her magic cannon firing squad did too.
They headed towards the alchemy tools that were covered and placed in a corner of the main camp.
Naturally, this movement came to Ryo's attention.
"Abel, it’s finally happening!"
"Huh?"
"Look, it’s that alchemy tool. The one Captain Ruyao was adjusting. We couldn't see it from the outside since it was covered the whole time."
"Oh, that huge thing? It’s about the size of a carriage."
"A carriage-sized alchemy tool reminds me of 'Long-Distance Dispersion Divine Mercy (Panacea Breath)'! It was quite effective in the decisive battle against the demon, right?"
"It was effective. Thanks to that, many soldiers’ lives were saved."
"Oh!"
The 'Long-Distance Dispersion Divine Mercy (Panacea Breath)' was an alchemy tool created by Ryo and Viscount Kenneth Hayward, designed to spread light attribute magic's heal across the entire battlefield.
Ryo himself wasn’t there at the time, but later Abel told him about its remarkable effects.
Given that the 'Long-Distance Dispersion Divine Mercy' was about the size of a carriage, it was very curious what this new tool, which was similar in size, could be.
The cover was removed, and it was drawn forward.
"A big chair?"
"With a cannon?"
Abel and Ryo were puzzled.
However, after a while, something flashed in Ryo's mind.
This was likely due to his knowledge from Earth.
"Is it an anti-aircraft cannon?"
A shooter sat in the chair, with a rapid-fire machine gun mounted in front, aimed at the sky.
The chair and cannon rotated together to intercept anything flying in from above...
Such a weapon existed during World War II.
Of course, it wasn't as refined as that, and the 'cannon' protruding forward was a single barrel.
Captain Ruyao was already seated in the chair.
The 'cannon' drawn forward was fixed to the ground by its base.
Naturally, it seemed the seat and cannon could move freely, with Captain Ruyao aiming.
Around her...
"Are there about fifty people there?"
"Yes, those are the members of the magic cannon firing squad."
It was an unusual sight even from Abel and Ryo's perspective.
All of them were holding onto ropes extending from the 'cannon'.
"That mechanism..."
"The magic cannon firing squad members are holding onto ropes. Come to think of it, the 'Divine Mercy' also had priests holding onto extended ropes."
"Yes. The ropes are used to transmit magical power to the device. After various trials with Kenneth, we found that was the method with the least magical power transmission loss... I believe that the 'cannon' is connected by ropes for the same reason."
"That's impressive."
"Perhaps the wise follow the same path."
Ryo nodded deeply.
Viscount Kenneth Hayward was such an outstanding alchemist that Ryo considered him his master without hesitation.
Captain Ruyao was also an excellent alchemist, someone worthy of receiving the 'friendship proof no. 2' in Ryo's view.
From Ryo's perspective, both could easily be called 'wise' alchemists.
"Ruyao, attack at the appropriate time!"
"Understood!"
Prince Lyun's command flew out, and Ruyao nodded.
She moved the 'cannon' slightly... and fired.
Boom!
A surprisingly huge sound erupted, releasing a white fireball.
The white fireball hit the head of the wyvern flying at the front, engulfing its entire head in flames.
