My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's

Chapter 9: Mythological Stories 📖

Published: March 21, 2026

Barely safe (?)

It's short.

We sat on a stone bench we found in the sparsely trafficked courtyard and looked at the flowers. I spotted the same kind of butterfly that had been in the other world fluttering around the blossoms, and a strange, indescribable feeling welled up inside me.

Commander saran's story was some kind of mythological story. Maybe like Greece's myths back on Earth. I hoped it wasn't as sordid. Greek mythology had too much messy passion; I gave up reading it.

"For now, shall I tell you about the gods of this world?"

In this world, Morrigan has a single god. His name is "creator god Aitel." He apparently manages centralized status data and bestows blessings on the races.

Come to think of it, Japan had a lot of gods. Just one pillar of a god sounds like it would be an awful lot of work for one being.

Commander saran didn't know my stray thoughts and continued.

Aitel first made the atmosphere, then he made the land. After that he created humans, inferior copies of himself. He created the Human race, the Elf race, the Demon Clan, and the Beastmen, and gave them emotions. He put them on the land, gave them work, and granted them status. Bored with the squabbles of the gods, Aitel sought to heal himself by observing them.

So even gods fight with each other. What are the other gods doing? Aitel's doing all the work alone — help him out!

But if humans are inferior versions of a god, maybe it's not a great idea to seek solace in them...

They fought over territory, possessions, women, men. They split into separate races and began to live apart. Angered, Aitel created demonic beasts and divided the continent into four.

The Demon Clan, who can control those demonic beasts, were driven to the volcanic continent, "Volcano."

The Elf race, who love nature, went to the continent with the Sacred Tree, "Forest."

The remaining Humans and Beastmen fought until the end, and the Humans, victorious, settled on a vast, fertile continent, "Cantinen."

The Beastmen went to the Continent of Beasts, "Brute."

Aren't those continent names just the English words for their features? Also, Morrigan sounds familiar from somewhere...

"Well, that's basically how Morrigan came to be."

"The Humans are stingy."

"...Well, I suppose you could see it that way? Most people wouldn't."

Come to think of it, it'd be faster to read a book. I should go to the library after all. With that thought I stood up.

"Oh? Where are you going? I haven't finished telling you my story yet."

Her arm snatched mine quickly. Despite her slender arms, she was strong; I couldn't budge her no matter how I tried. Commander saran's eyes glinted darkly.
