My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's

Chapter 63: Chapter 62 - Question ❓

Published: March 21, 2026

Thank you for waiting so long!

I’ve been busy lately... I don’t know when the next post will be. I’d appreciate it if you could wait patiently.

"Explain to me in a way I can understand what you two are talking about."

Ringa pursed his lips, so I gave a vague explanation about the world eye.

Even if he’s a guild master, I can’t tell him everything. Well, I’ll tell him everything once I’m sure I can trust him. There isn’t that much to hide, anyway.

"Fine. There are only two things we need to confirm. Oda Akira, were you summoned from another world as a hero?"

There’s a rumor that a human nation successfully performed a hero summoning.

I glanced at Yoru to see if it was okay to speak.

"...I see. Next question—"

Ringa, having read our reactions, moved on to the next question.

I’m not good at this sort of bargaining when I can’t keep a poker face.

"You there, the familiar named Yoru—were you the demon king’s right hand?"

I had suspected Yoru was close to the demon king, but his right hand? If so, why would the demon king offer his right hand to me?

'That’s correct, but now I’m under my master. I won’t be thinking of destroying this country like I did when I was a reckless youth, so rest easy.'

Hey, didn’t you just drop a bomb like that?

Explain yourself.

"The familiar there, when he was a monster, acted as the demon king’s right hand and tried to destroy this country—no, this continent. Thanks to the hero back then fighting hard, one corner of the castle where the Beastmen King lived crumbled and only the town was destroyed, but since then we’ve all come to fear black cats. The proud name of the Beastmen is in tears."

I glanced at Yoru; he was looking off into the distance and whistling poorly, definitely not ashamed.

This guy hasn’t repented at all.

No wonder the townsfolk fled when they saw me. The thugs earlier hadn’t noticed because they were drunk, but having ordinary citizens look my way and run hit me psychologically.

'The demon king ordered it. And at the time it was during war. I don’t think I was wrong, and I don’t intend to apologize.'

"I understand. I just wanted to confirm."

Amelia was stunned by the fact that the innocent-looking Yoru had actually been a god of destruction.

No, never judge by appearance. This guy is the sort to blast you with a dragon breath right after you meet him. Remember—he really acted like a god of destruction at first.

'Ah, master, I can hear your thoughts aloud through telepathy...'

So that’s what he was thinking. Yoru sulked.

"It seems familiars and their masters being linked by the telepathy skill is true. A valuable sample."

I glanced around and noticed something like a camera on the ceiling.

Unlike the malicious cameras I saw when I first came to this world, this one didn’t seem hostile, so I had overlooked it.

"A camera in your own room—quite strict security."

Isn’t that a bit overkill for a mere guild master?

"Sometimes the Beastmen’s most precious treasures are placed here. That’s why."

"...Treasure, huh. Is it okay to tell us that?"

Wouldn’t he think we might be thieves who came to steal those treasures?

"It’s fine. If we were thieves, we wouldn’t bring a familiar. And certainly not a black-cat familiar—that would be too conspicuous."

For thieves who hate standing out, we’re awfully bold, true enough. Just having Amelia with us makes us noticeable.

Speaking of standing out, the opposite is true too.

"Your extra skill, 'Non-Interference'—is it possible it makes you completely unrecognizable to others?"

"Yeah. But I’ll have you know I’m a natural civil servant. Also, I have a fear of pointed objects; I can’t even look at knives properly. That’s why I turned down the distinguished profession of Assassin."

He can’t handle forks either, but chopsticks are fine, so he has them shipped from Yamato.

I stared at Ringa’s status display. Sure enough, his profession listed Assassin. The exact same as mine.

So we’re same-profession types.

He apparently uses the 'Non-Interference' skill to sneak into this room and do paperwork quietly. No wonder his evaluation was so odd.
