My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's

Chapter 46: The Land of Yamato 2 🇯🇵

Published: March 21, 2026

Sorry, it's a little small.

We decided to stay at an inn called Nightingale Pavilion. We changed into the clothes the inn gave us in our rooms, then gathered again in front of the reception. Ms. Ueno and Mr. Hosoyama, taking advantage of the chance, had asked the proprietress on a whim — even though they expected she might refuse.

"Hey, Asahina-kun, did we really have to change too?"

"Don't say that in front of the girls. Besides, it's fine. It suits you."

While we waited for the girls to finish getting ready — which took quite a while — we clustered together out of the way and talked.

Mine was a light blue cloth with a red carp pattern; Asahina-kun's was black with scattered fireworks designs. Nanase-kun and the others picked safe, solid navy ones. Only the two of us had the proprietress push them onto us. Asahina-kun, with his build, looked good in his, but no matter how much I tried to see it positively, I didn't look right in mine.

I sighed and looked down at my own body.

Even though I'm stronger than Asahina-kun, that's because of my skill. In pure swordsmanship, I couldn't beat the kendo club captain, Asahina-kun. Even using my skill, at close range it would be a close fight at best.

"Sorry to keep you—!"

"Sorry— I thought I could manage on my own, but dressing in a kimono is harder than I thought."

We turned toward the familiar voices and froze.

"O-oh."

"How do we look? Do they suit us?"

Mr. Hosoyama spun playfully on the spot and smiled mischievously. Ms. Ueno spread her sleeves to show them off.

Contrary to my expectation that Mr. Hosoyama's good figure wouldn't suit traditional wear, the pink kimono with a butterfly pattern fit him well. Ms. Ueno's navy fabric brought out the morning-glory pattern. Both had their hair up instead of their usual simple ties, revealing slightly sweaty napes that were sensuous in a way you don't usually see. For a bunch of high school boys, that was hard to handle. On top of that, the two of them were the class beauties, so the boys couldn't help themselves.

"Ah, I'm glad I was born…"

Some even teared up and bowed in reverence.

"So? How is it?"

"Does it look weird?"

"U-um—"

They looked to me for my opinion. Every boy except Asahina-kun bled tears of blood.

"Damn it! In the end, it's the face! It's the face!!"

"If only I could change my face…"

I smiled faintly at those guys and gave an honest reaction.

"It suits you both well. If the situation were different, I'd have confessed already."

They blushed and looked satisfied.

"Alright, then let's go eat rice!"
