My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's

Chapter 302: The 298th Episode ~Interference~ 😊

I couldn't finish it today, so I split it up!

So it's short.

The day after we gained the new base, everyone remaining on the Cantinen Continent—except Noah, Ria, Ringa and the others—had already finished moving out of the airship.

We hadn't planned on settling permanently in this world when we left Reytis Castle, so our baggage was minimal; moving a single carry-on's worth was enough. Beyond the grove behind the mansion was the sea, and we'd moved the airship there, so trips back and forth took less than an hour. Satou and the others were handling the provisions from the ice room and the other daily necessities, so that should be fine. The spicy food Hosoyama had been craving could likely be found at a nearby market.

While everyone did what they could, I spent my spare time helping Amaryllis, who had been given a personal herb room and had a lot of items.

At the meeting with the three noble families, when Kohana Sakuya called for punishment and Amaryllis was sentenced to make medicine for others until she died, Amaryllis was given a room in a row-house close to the mansion we’d received through Sakuya’s arrangements.

When it came to medicine, Amaryllis tended to forget to eat or sleep. It felt like Sakuya had tacitly ordered me to look after her, but maybe that was just my imagination. I hoped it was.

“Is that everything? I feel like there’s less dried herb hanging here than when I was in this room before.”

“Yeah. We decided to use the herbs that can be harvested here first, so we cleared them out.”

Amaryllis wound the cord that held the herbs as she spoke, and I nodded in understanding. Apparently those medicinal plants also grew around our new mansion, and she planned to come harvest them after greeting the neighbors and getting used to life here. I was glad that tie wouldn’t be cut off after the move.

Amaryllis straightened up and fixed me with a look.

“…You’re sleeping over here tonight, right?”

“Yeah. Noah and the others leave for the Brute Continent first thing in the morning, so I’ll see them off.”

Noah and Ria were taking Crow’s remains to Crow’s workshop in Uru, and Ringa and the others had to stop by the guild, also in Uru. The “sleeping people” we rescued at Morte were to stay in Uru until their places of origin were identified. The one rat beastman man who had already awakened was from Uruk, so he’d be sent by land. From Ringa’s information, Uruk might still be in turmoil from a change in the royal family, so using the airship there would be dangerous. We couldn’t manage that side of things, so we left it all to Noah.

So the airship would depart early tomorrow morning. It wasn’t like we’d never see each other again—after finishing their business in Beastmen territory they’d come back—but I felt a little sentimental leaving the base that had been home since the Forest of Death. I decided to sleep on the airship tonight. Also, I hadn’t gotten used to living in that mansion yet.

Kyousuke and the others who came after us reacted differently: the bold types like Ueno, Kazuki, and Nanase were as excited as Satou when they saw the mansion, while the rest reacted like me. I was relieved to find I wasn’t the only one intimidated—something I’ll keep to my grave.

Amelia seemed uneasy about taking off her shoes to step onto tatami and sleeping on futons, but she actually adapted surprisingly well to the Japanese-style room.

“Is something the matter?”

Amaryllis was supposed to take her last load to the row-house and then part ways with the airship, but she seemed unsettled.

When I wondered if there was something else going on, she quickly shook her head.

“Ah, no, it’s not that! Um, if it’s okay with you… I’d be really happy if you could watch the watchtower tonight.”

“…You’re not coming up here, right?”

“No. …I just felt like meddling with a friend.”

“Meddling? Alright, got it.”

Amaryllis put her hand to her mouth and gave a mischievous chuckle—very much like Kohana Sakuya.
