My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero's

Chapter 27: Chapter 26 - Luck 🍀

Published: March 21, 2026

Thank you for waiting.

“Come to think of it, I never made any maps…”

I muttered as I killed the demonic beasts blocking my path. Up until now I’d almost never gotten lost and always reached the boss room, so I’d never bothered to make a map of the labyrinth.

Looking back, that’s pretty abnormal. Labyrinths are terribly convoluted; normally it’s nearly impossible to reach the boss room without mapping. And I’ve delved down sixty floors. It’s too much to chalk up to luck.

“Could it be some skill?”

I mumbled to myself and checked my status. I didn’t see any obvious skill that would explain it.

Oh—there it was, at the very bottom. The extra skill called luck.

“Ah, so that’s it.”

If only I’d obtained this skill a little earlier, I wouldn’t have been framed for Commander saran’s murder; I’d probably be loafing around at home right now.

Anyway, for now learning new skills and raising skill levels is going smoothly. Only practice matters. With the luck extra skill, most things tend to work out.

Come to think of it, why did I get an extra skill? Maybe because I almost died once.

I kept thinking while my hands moved.

“Kyuyeee!!”

“Ugh…”

Something huge appeared in front of me, letting out a shriek. I wanted to pick “run away” without a second thought. It didn’t look edible and it was gross to look at. At first glance it looked like moving sludge, but the stench from the large hole that looked like a mouth assaulted my eyes and nose.

“All right, let’s run… huh?”

Just as I was about to choose to flee, a presence I’d stopped sensing around the twentieth floor tripped my presence detection. My presence detection range is about a five-kilometer radius now, so the thing in front of me was well within it. But this sense felt like it was triggered the moment the monster opened its mouth.

“Worth testing…”

I gripped my Night Blade God, which had already become like an extension of my hand. The thing wasn’t food, but curiosity got to me.

“Kyuyeeeeeee!!”

“Shut up. Close that mouth!”

I teleported to the monster’s face in an instant and, from my ready stance, slashed straight through it in a diagonal strike. There was a Demon Stone near its heart, so I was careful not to cut too deep.

“Kyu, kyuee…”

“…”

The monster collapsed without much resistance. Pathetic!

It was definitely weaker than the demonic beasts that wander the sixtieth floor. This thing felt more like a tenth‑floor monster. Its gooey parts congealed and crumbled.

“…hm.”

“…sigh, I figured it’d be something like this.”

I sighed and approached the girl who’d come out from inside the monster.

She was still alive. Her breathing was steady; she’d just been knocked out.

“…This is the sixtieth floor. You can’t clear this place bringing a woman along.”

I glared at my new burden and started preparing our camp for the night.
