I fell asleep and the power went out, so the text disappeared twice — I seriously wished for an auto-save function.
Sorry to have kept you waiting.
It's short.
"Hmm?"
I bolted upright in the boss room on the sixtieth floor. Something felt off in my body.
"...No wounds."
The cuts from fighting the chimera, the bruises from training with commander saran, the sore waist and back from awkwardly sleeping on the ground — they were all completely healed.
There were no people around, and the places that had been wounded gave off no magical power, so it wasn't the healer casting healing magic. Besides, there shouldn't be any healing magic that instantly cures all injuries like that. And I don't have a self-regeneration skill. By my internal clock, the battle was yesterday, so natural healing was impossible.
I stretched deeply for the first time in a while and stopped thinking. Even if I pondered it I wouldn't figure it out. So thinking would be useless. When the time comes to know, I'll understand it naturally.
"Well then, after I fill up on chimera meat, maybe I'll dive in again."
I skipped toward the place where the scene of the dismemberment — not a serial murder but a dismembered chimera incident — had formed.
Apparently there are no insects in the labyrinth; even after leaving the raw meat out for a night, not a single bug had gathered. Since it was the boss room, there was no worry of other demonic beasts eating it, and it was still in the state it had been in before being taken down. The meat wasn't fresh exactly, but it was still edible.
I wanted to start a fire with the Demon Stone, but there was nothing to burn, so I seared the meat directly with the Demon Stone. A savory aroma spread throughout the boss room immediately.
"Itadakimasu!"
I put my hands together and chomped in. The meat juices filled my mouth, and a sweetness spread. To sum it up, chimera meat is incredibly delicious.
I learned later that the stronger a demonic beast is, the tastier its meat tends to be, and chimera meat is so rare that it's more accurate to say no one has eaten it than to call it a luxury food. I couldn't eat all of it anyway, and since it would weigh down my pack I left the rest behind in the boss room with a heavy heart.
"Now then, how far can I get today?"
