From that day on, the lives of Class 2-2 changed. The peaceful, ordinary days were suddenly invaded by the extraordinary. A gigantic magic circle appeared in the center of the classroom. Once the intricate pattern began to glow pale blue, we finally realized how strange the situation was.
"Everyone, get out of the classroom!!!"
Someone shouted that, but it was already too late.
The magic circle was already primed, and an especially intense light filled our vision. I couldn't bear it and shut my eyes. I felt my body lift slightly and heard a scream nearby that sounded like it came from one of the girls. The next moment we were set back down on the ground.
And we were forcibly removed from our ordinary lives.
By an isekai summoning.
My name is Oda Akira, and I don't believe in ghosts, aliens, or any occult phenomena. I read isekai summoning novels, empathize with them, get jealous or moved, but I always keep a clear distinction between fiction and reality.
"Please, defeat the Demon King and save us."
But now a person who looked like the king of a nation was bowing his head to us, and this situation was undeniably real, and even my brain couldn't catch up. No, anyone would be confused in this situation. My face, which people had mistaken many times for being expressionless and aloof, was probably blank too.
A few minutes earlier, when our vision cleared, we found ourselves in a vast hall so large you couldn't see the other side. Thirteen knights stood around us, and a girl who looked to be the same age as us and who seemed to be a princess stood among them.
The girl, guarded by the knights, was watching us while breathing heavily.
No, though they were dressed like knights, some of them were holding staves—are they mages?
My mind was a mess, but a calmer part of me continued to observe this unfamiliar space.
The floor was covered with a plush carpet whose color was a gaudy red, but it matched this unnecessarily luxurious space. The ceiling was oddly high; I could tell there were fine decorations, but it was too high to see clearly.
As I observed, I realized the girl and the figures who looked like mages had moved to stand beside me without my noticing.
"Welcome, prospective heroes. Please come this way. His majesty the king will explain everything."
An elderly man who looked like a mage bowed politely to us and indicated an unnecessarily grand door.
Anyone who tried to ask a question was silenced by the old man's gaze. We followed his direction and went through the door, where a man who appeared to be the king explained to us a scenario straight out of a typical isekai fantasy novel.
First, the nature of this world. This world is called Morrigan, apparently a spherical planet like Earth.
Morrigan has four continents, each inhabited by the Human race, the Demon Clan, the Elf race, and the Beastmen.
We had been summoned to Reytis, the largest human nation on one of the continents.
And the reason for the summoning was exactly what the king said.
The Demon Clan had begun a full-scale invasion into Human territory. They wanted us to defeat the Demon King.
Inside my head I shouted, "The template has arrived!!!"
Of course, that was a cheer.
It's a situation every young person of our age secretly longs for. In our class, it was more unusual not to cheer. These days there are so many isekai anime after all.
Some of the girls looked around anxiously, but still, many of the students—especially the boys—were delighted to escape their boring daily lives.
They had no idea of the hardships and trials that awaited them.
