Don! Gan! Gon!!
Sounds no human body should make echoed through the air as people were sent flying against the backdrop of the blue sky.
It felt like watching some over-the-top animation.
The weather was perfect — the kind that would dry laundry in no time — and my mind started to drift away from reality.
“Come on, next!!!”
If the one sending people flying with a single punch had been that robot that gave us so much trouble earlier, I could’ve understood.
But the one launching us was an ageless-looking girl in a cumbersome gothic-lolita dress.
Also, we were holding regular weapons that hadn’t even had their blades dulled, while she held nothing.
“That’s all the hero is!!”
A small fist sank into my abdomen and my feet left the ground.
If someone told me she was the demon king right now, I might actually believe it.
I slammed into a tree that had been some distance away, and for the fifth time that day, my consciousness fell into darkness.
“First, start by finding where you want to grow. Open your status.”
After introductions, Ms. Noah said that casually.
There were a lot of things I wanted to ask about Mr. Crow and others, but every time I tried to open my mouth, my words were shut down. She apparently wasn’t accepting questions.
“Status · Open.”
I chanted it for the first time in a while and looked at the board only I could see.

I froze after opening my status.
I’d been living day to day and, since leaving Yamato Country, hadn’t checked my status even once.
Compared to the last time I looked, the levels on many skills had gone up dramatically, and I’d somehow acquired new skills without noticing.
There were skills I hadn’t realized I’d learned so their experience hadn’t increased, and others — like Recon and danger sense — that I hadn’t noticed gaining but had leveled up somehow.
True, at some point I’d started to sense the presence of demonic beasts, but I’d just assumed it was because I’d gotten used to fighting.
…And why is Charm — a skill I don’t even think I use — the highest level skill?
I glanced around quietly; everyone else looked just as surprised. Apparently our levels had risen without our knowing.
“Finished checking? Then, come to the back.”
Ms. Noah pointed outside with her thumb in a way that still felt short on words.
Her gesture made it look like she was calling us to the back of the gym. If Mr. Crow had been doing this, it’d probably be a one-call-to-authorities situation…
Still, the explanation was so lacking that question marks seemed to hover over everyone’s heads.
“W-what are you going to do?”
Fortunately, Mr. Zeal, the only one who knew her at all, spoke up.
Whatever we said felt like it might touch Ms. Noah’s reverse scale. Maybe it was just me, but better not to rile the gods — or her.
Between Mr. Crow’s already-intimidating presence and the way they both carried themselves, the two of them were unnecessarily threatening. What on earth had we done?
“What? I’m going to use these guys as sandbags. From what I’ve seen, this hero is weak. He shouldn’t even be able to withstand an attack from ‘Usako No. 11’.”
Sandbags.
If the image in my head matched what she meant, I might be in mortal danger soon.
Mr. Zeal’s mouth twitched at the corner of my vision.
Also, do sandbags exist in this world? Sometimes the translations from my Language Comprehension extra skill make me anxious.
