"Huh!? A festival??"
I couldn't help blurting out in a startled voice.
I was so surprised that the bucket I had filled to wash my face flipped over.
Last night, because of that strange late-night mood, when Amelia and I were engraving the ring, I knew the heroes had been discussing various things.
Even after Amelia and I returned to our room, the room assigned to the heroes was brightly lit, so I figured they were making plans to persuade Amelia.
But I never expected they'd invite us to a festival first thing in the morning.
Kyousuke, who invited us, picked up the bucket I dropped and refilled it with water.
"Yeah. There's supposed to be a festival in Uruk. Want to go?"
Kyousuke tilted his head with his usual poker face that even surpassed mine and Amelia's.
I frowned as I took the bucket.
"...Uruk, huh."
There's a man in Uruk who seems to have summoned members of the Demon Clan.
The one who tried to abduct Amelia.
Obviously, simply teaching him a lesson won't be enough.
At the very least, I won't be satisfied unless I make him regret being born.
I brought the bucket close and splashed water on my face.
My half-asleep brain felt fully awake.
"You can still move at night but you can't fight yet, right? Training is important, but why not take a break sometimes?"
I groaned at Kyousuke's suggestion.
I didn't know what festivals in this world were like, but there was no doubt they sounded fun.
Amelia would want to enjoy herself sometimes, and if the festival is anything like the ones I imagine, there would be food stalls.
With how much Amelia loves food, she'd definitely want to go.
The question was what Kyousuke's intention was in inviting us.
"...What are you planning?"
I wiped my face with my sleeve and looked at Kyousuke.
He shouldn't know about Amelia's love of food yet.
So he wasn't trying to win her over with her stomach.
Is there something going on at that festival?
Kyousuke gave me a wry smile at my suspicious face.
"Maybe you're just paranoid from skirting death too often. You're overthinking it. Our girls want to go, so we thought maybe Princess Amelia would like to too. We'll think about persuasion later."
True, I had become more distrustful than when I lived in Japan.
But in this world, that level of caution was probably appropriate.
Unlike Japan, you never know when you'll die here.
"...I'll say we'll go, for now. But I'll ask Amelia tonight first β she'll probably say yes."
I might as well ask Crow about festivals in this world.
With a clear head, I began planning the day's schedule.
I didn't notice Kyousuke smiling meaningfully behind me.
"A festival!?"
When I told Kyousuke that they were inviting us to a festival, Amelia and Yoru reacted the same way I did.
Only, Yoru looked dejected and Amelia's face was full of joy.
"Master, could it be that beauty contest in Uruk?"
"Who knows? He did say Uruk... Do they even have beauty contests in this world?"
I tilted my head as Yoru frowned.
Meanwhile, Amelia grabbed my hand with a sparkling expression.
"We're going!? I want to go!"
Amelia latched on so eagerly that I leaned back.
"Y-yeah. I thought you'd want to go, Amelia, so I told them we'd go... Do you know what kind of festival it is?"
"I don't know!"
Amelia said sharply, and I went limp.
"You're awfully happy about it even though you don't know."
"But it's a festival, right? Lots of delicious food!"
Ah β it turned out Amelia cared more about the food than the festival itself.
Just as I expected. Simple and cute.
I looked down at the black cat standing on two legs and holding its head.
"Master, Miss Amelia, that festival is basically a brawl, you know? There are lots of food stalls for sure."
Yoru spoke as if he'd seen it himself.
"Have you been there?"
"Yeah. Pretty recently, too."
Yoru began explaining this so-called beauty contest.
Apparently it started in Human territory and before long began being held in Beastmen territory as well.
The contest is split into male and female divisions, and each person enters whichever division they want.
So men can cross-dress and compete in the women's division, and vice versa.
