The next morning, I headed to the dining hall to have breakfast.
We only eat portable meals on days when we go dungeon exploring.
On days we don’t go to the dungeon, we have regular meals.
Portable meals aren’t bad, but regular food is definitely much more delicious.
When I arrived at the dining hall, all eyes were on me again, just like two days ago.
No one seemed like they were going to come talk to me from a distance.
Well, that’s understandable.
I suddenly joined the clan, and the very next day I was made an executive.
No one really knows how to interact with someone like that…
I hope I can fit in quickly…
“Ah, Orun-kun!”
Just as I started eating after receiving my food, someone called my name.
I turned toward the voice and saw Lucre approaching with a girl wearing glasses.
“Good morning! Mind if I eat with you?”
“Good morning, Lucre. Of course, go ahead.”
When I agreed, Lucre sat directly across from me, and the girl with glasses sat diagonally opposite.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Nina. I belong to the magical development department of the silver rabbits of the night sky.”
The girl with glasses introduced herself.
She had sky-blue short hair and indigo eyes.
“Thank you for the formal introduction. I’m Orun. Since the other day, I’ve been part of the first squad in the exploration division.”
“You two are so stiff! We’re all the same age, so let’s get along!”
Since she said “everyone,” I figured she must also be eighteen.
“You’re way too relaxed…”
“Haha… Well then, can I just call you Nina without any honorifics?”
“Uh, yeah. That’s fine. In that case, I’ll call you O-Orun, too.”
“Great, it’s nice that we’re getting along! Oh! Oh! Nina, look, look!”
Lucre used the light magic I taught her yesterday to levitate a spoon and fork.
“...Huh? What!? What is that!?”
“Tsk-tsk~ Cool, right? Orun-kun taught me yesterday!”
“Is this your original magic, Orun?”
Nina asked hesitantly.
Since she’s in the magical development department, she’s naturally interested in magic and magical tools.
“Yeah, if you want, I can teach you.”
“Really!? That’s great!”
Nina leaned in eagerly as she asked.
…She’s pretty close.
Originally, I planned to make this magic public.
I think this magic shows its true value in everyday life, more than in dungeon exploration.
“Sure, I can teach you. But I have just one request.”
“What kind of request?”
Nina grew cautious after I set a condition for teaching.
“I want this magic to be publicly released under the name ‘silver rabbits of the night sky’. The method doesn’t matter. As long as it spreads publicly, it’s okay if the clan profits from it in the process. For example, selling it as a magical tool initially and later publishing the technique.”
“…But it’s your original magic, right? Is it really okay to release it so easily?”
Nina’s concern was understandable.
Developing magic is no small feat.
There are already many magics in existence, so creating something distinct and useful is very difficult.
“This magic was a byproduct when developing other magics, so it didn’t take much effort to create. Also, it seems to have demand, so others might already be working on it. The sooner it’s made public, the better.”
Plus, if this magic brings in significant revenue, my standing within the clan will improve.
I was promoted to executive without any achievements since joining.
I want to build visible accomplishments quickly — that’s a practical thought I have, though I won’t say it out loud.
“Okay, I promise. Hey, by the way, the first squad basically goes to the Great Labyrinth every other day, right? So, on the days you don’t go to the Great Labyrinth, why not come to the magical development department?”
“I appreciate the offer, but I already have things scheduled for those days. Executives have work, too. Sorry. But if I get the chance, I’ll try to drop by.”
“That’s too bad. Your schedule’s already full. By the way, can I ask what kind of work that is?”
