CHAPTER 81: BREAKTHROUGH TO THREE HEAVENS
It was still that female staff member who greeted Chen Chu enthusiastically as he walked out of the elevator, “Chen, are you here to exchange for more resources?”
Chen Chu nodded, “Yes, could you first help me check how many contribution points I have?”
Last night, after submitting the battle footage for verification of his personal kills, he simply went to bed and didn’t know the exact number of contribution points he had.
“No problem, please input your student ID for facial verification.”
Soon, the female clerk exclaimed in surprise, “Chen, you currently have thirty-six contribution points.”
It was no wonder she was so surprised; this morning, trial participants had been coming in to exchange resources, with most having only around ten points, and only three reaching twenty points.
The young man before her had added thirty-three points recently, which meant he had killed the most rebel cultivators last night.
Thirty-three points, huh.
Chen Chu wasn’t surprised by this gain. If you counted the twelve points from exchanging the mutated black bull, he should have earned a total of forty-five points last night.
This amount was roughly equivalent to the rewards he received over half a year in school, and that was with the extra income from being ranked 49th in his grade.
Otherwise, under normal circumstances, he wouldn’t have gathered this many contribution points over two semesters.
Indeed, one cannot become rich without unexpected gains; if it weren’t for the technological age and the fact that those cultivators weren’t accustomed to carrying cash, he could have scavenged even more last night.
Thinking of this, Chen Chu couldn’t help but wonder about the funding sources of the rebels; did they not trade at all?
Lost in thought, he politely said, “Could you please help me exchange for three Second-Grade Life Crystals?”
A single Second-Grade Life Crystal required fifteen points, and with an eight percent discount, it came to twelve, which meant he had just enough contribution points to exchange for three.
The level of Life Crystals comes from mutated beasts, with Second-Grade containing more and purer life energy than First-Grade, hence the higher price.
However, the mutated beast they had killed last night did not yield any crystals.
According to the information Chen Chu reviewed, the yield of Life Crystals was very low, usually only found in extremely powerful mutated beasts of the same level.
For instance, those at the peak of First-Grade or Second-Grade.
Tests have shown that when a Second-Grade peak mutated beast breaks through to become a Third-Grade mutated beast, the Life Crystal within it dissolves and disappears.
This is because the energy condensed in the Life Crystal is used for the breakthrough, a phenomenon similar to how a clone’s accumulated evolution value is consumed when it evolves.
Just like with cultivators, when mutated beasts try to break through their own levels, they can also get stuck, with many unable to upgrade even until death.
Holding three Life Crystals, Chen Chu took the elevator back to the eighteenth floor. As soon as he stepped out, he ran into Li Meng, who was heading out for a meal.
Seeing Chen Chu, Li Meng curiously asked, “Chen Chu, I heard you guys took down a mutated beast last night, a Third-Level one!”
Chen Chu smiled, “Just got lucky, it was a mutated black bull with average attack power that I, along with Li Hao and Xia Youhui, managed to kill together.”
Li Meng was speechless, “Here we go again. Your catchphrase is ‘luck’, can’t you just be a little less modest? You’re impressive!”
Chen Chu replied with some annoyance, “Of course I say I’m lucky and being humble! Should I say I’m super awesome and amazing?”
“Hey, what’s wrong with that? If I killed a Third-Level mutated beast, I’d definitely brag to the other students!”
Chen Chu shook his head, “Forget it, I’m not as thick-skinned as you.”
They were both young and lacked the reserve and maturity of adults, so Chen Chu spoke very casually with them.
