We frequently dealt with attacks by demonic beasts, hunted them down, sold their materials, and made a good profit. However, the Bell Rango Trading Company was on the verge of collapse.
The arrow stock was running low, so I ordered more to be made.
The sewage in some of the houses got clogged. Flushing the water didn’t help. It smelled bad, so I requested immediate action to fix it as soon as possible.
Andre-san had his third child. I asked Lord Van to kindly name the baby.
We didn’t have enough carriages. According to the trading company, the commercially available carriages were much worse in performance compared to the ones from Seato Village but were expensive. If possible, they hoped Lord Van could make some.
New residents arrived. There were fifty people, and ten of them wanted to join the knight order. I was asked to conduct interviews.
And so on—the mountain of tasks Espada mentioned had piled up in my office.
“...Ask if any of the new residents can work at the Bell Rango Trading Company. If there are any, we’ll interview them along with the knight order candidates. When making consumables, we might as well build some carriages too. Do we have enough horses? Nobody likes a smelly toilet, right? Let’s fix the clog first. I decided the policy quickly and headed straight to the site.

By the time I was running around maintaining toilets and sewers, I started having serious doubts about what being a lord was supposed to be.
Was solving water troubles all there was to a lord’s job?

“Alright, a thousand arrows. Since materials are running low, ask the adventurers' guild to procure supplies. Oh, I made the carriage armored just in case, is that okay? If we take off the mobile ballista, there’s plenty of room for cargo.”
“Thank you! By the way, a peddler mentioned wanting this carriage...”
“One platinum coin per unit. Ask again when they come next time.”
“Y-yes!”
Making things is also part of a lord’s job... No, I shouldn’t think about it anymore. I’m simply a machine for making things.
After handling various tasks like that, I met with Bell at the lord’s manor.
“We’ve asked a peddler acquaintance to help transport demonic beast materials, but we’ve reached our limit.”
“I see.”
Seeing Bell looking exhausted from the start, I nodded seriously.
Bell sighed and slumped her shoulders before speaking.
“This land is the closest to the Wolfsburg Mountains, so it’s natural there are many demonic beasts. But Seato Village not only drives away large demonic beasts that usually can’t be fought but actually hunts them all and collects the materials. On top of that, the material quality is the best.”
“That sounds like a good thing?”
I replied, and Bell gave me a resentful look.
“Making a profit is good. We pay special bonuses if sales exceed a certain amount to avoid disparities as the number of employees grows. And as Lord Van mentioned, we sell daily necessities and food cheaply to give back to the villagers. But we’ve clearly become too conspicuous.”
