Doomsday Summoning Frenzy

Chapter 72: A Small Refuge in the Apocalypse 🌍

"Well, that should be your camp up ahead, right?" Wen Yu said to Li Dalong, looking at the makeshift wooden fort surrounded by simple wooden stakes.

"That's it." Li Dalong's expression was a bit awkward. Clearly, he was not satisfied with the appearance of their gathering place.

Li Quan'an and Sun Ruixing behind them exchanged glances.

"You guys are in pretty rough shape, aren't you?" Sun Ruixing finally couldn't hold back after listening for a while.

Hearing Sun Ruixing's words, Li Dalong couldn't help but sigh, "This isn't even that bad; it gets worse inside the camp."

This small camp had at least a few broken fences and housed quite a number of professionals. Sun Ruixing saying it was pitiful was just because they had been confined by the mutated vines for too long and hadn't seen what a true apocalypse looked like.

In an apocalypse, having a place where one could close their eyes and rest was not considered pitiful.

"Let's go." Wen Yu interrupted the two's conversation directly. He then stored the one-eyed creature into the soul realm and entered a combat state.

If the one-eyed creature followed him into the camp, who knew what kind of trouble would arise? Moreover, with the increase in his strength, the time he could remain in combat state had significantly increased.

In an unfamiliar environment, being low-key was ultimately a good thing.

"Follow me in." Li Dalong led a few people directly toward the gathering place.

"Brother Dalong is back."

At the camp entrance stood two guards. Upon seeing Li Dalong bringing Wen Yu and the others, they greeted him directly, indicating that Li Dalong still held a small position within the camp.

"Yes." Li Dalong nodded to the guards and directly asked, "Is Brother Da Fei home?"

"Not at home right now; he went out hunting. He should be back later."

"Then I'll take these brothers to have a look around."

"Sure." The guard smiled at Li Dalong, then sized up Wen Yu and the others. When he saw the e-level protective suit on Wen Yu, a flash of shock crossed his eyes.

The guard gave Wen Yu a friendly smile, then quickly turned his head to the side, not daring to look at Wen Yu any longer.

"Let's walk around. By the way, you have injured members; you should take them to my place first."

After Li Dalong finished speaking, he led Wen Yu and the others into the camp.

...

Wen Yu and his group carefully observed the situation inside the camp.

The camp itself was not large; although it barely housed a few hundred people, the living conditions could hardly be considered good and could even be described as very poor.

A few wooden sticks and some torn cloth barely constructed a space that could shield from the wind; this was a survivor's dwelling.

More people were lying on the ground outdoors.

Moreover, people were packed together, and on the path leading to the center of the camp, it was almost impossible to find a place to step.

The living environment was bad enough, but more seriously, some frail elderly and children lay on the ground, not moving at all, leaving one unsure if they were dead or alive, with no one caring for them.

Even some able-bodied men kept lying on the ground, shouting out of hunger.

Wen Yu was somewhat better, but the more Li Quan'an and the others observed, the paler their faces became.

"This place is way too miserable."

Li Quan'an frowned and said to Li Dalong, who was leading the way ahead.

Compared to their previous gathering place, this was simply a combination of a garbage dump and a refugee camp.

Sun Ruixing looked at the scene before him, his empathy overflowing once again, and he couldn't help but say to Li Dalong, "Doesn't your Brother Da Fei care about these people?"

His words carried sarcasm, anger, and even disgust.

Li Dalong looked at Wen Yu and the others, forcing a bitter smile.

"We used to care, but since we were driven out of Chaihe Town, food now depends on professionals going out to hunt mutated beasts or even entering the town to gather supplies. Going out to find food every day is a nightmare for all professionals. No one knows if they can return after heading out."
