Hearing the words of the demon lord, Wen Yu thought for a moment, gently nodding his head before walking forward.
The muddy blood plasma mixed with the corpses that had already sunk to the bottom, creating a swamp-like quagmire. Walking in such a place was naturally inconvenient, but more so it was due to psychological pressure. To be honest, Wen Yu had never seen so many corpses!
A stench assaulted him like a wave, and coupled with the occasional squish of some unknown demonic creature's entrails underfoot, the slimy sensation was certainly not pleasant...
The psychological reaction naturally fed back into his actions. With the Ethereal enhancement, Wen Yu's body slowly ascended into the air.
Until he arrived in front of Tang Haofei.
...
Tang Haofei's state was somewhat strange; he appeared almost frozen, with bloodshot, vacant eyes. His clothes were torn to shreds, yet he bore no injuries. The murderous intent and violent aura radiating from him distorted the space around him.
Wen Yu felt as if the air around him had solidified, and an invisible pressure bore down heavily on his body.
"Glug..."
Wen Yu swallowed hard.
"Tang Haofei? Old Tang?"
Wen Yu waved his right hand in front of Tang Haofei, looking at the unresponsive figure.
Had he gone stupid? Or had he fallen victim to some enemy's bizarre skill during the battle?
Just then, the blood-red eyes moved slightly, and the scarlet gaze locked onto Wen Yu.
Wen Yu felt the pressure double. At this distance, combined with Tang Haofei’s current physical condition, he truly worried that Tang Haofei might suddenly snap and decapitate him...
...
Fortunately, the worst didn’t occur.
The vacant eyes slowly began to focus, and the strange red light gradually faded, leaving only dense blood vessels in their wake.
Tang Haofei slowly moved his neck, the sound of his joints cracking made one wince.
"You've returned."
His voice was deep and hoarse. Wen Yu nodded and then asked, "What happened to you…"
"Cough, cough..."
Tang Haofei coughed heavily twice, then gradually bent down and plopped down on top of a corpse tower, breathing heavily. In that moment, Wen Yu suddenly realized that although Tang Haofei's aura was still fierce, there was an unmistakable weariness in his expression.
"The number of resurrections has been too many... the people and demonic creatures I've killed are countless... I need to rest a bit..."
The almost unmasked exhaustion left Wen Yu silent—perhaps it was the bloodthirst that had clouded his mind, or maybe it was the sudden spike in power that Tang Haofei couldn’t control. It could even be a combination of the challenger trials and the life and death battle resolution, leading to some unknown side effects.
Who knows...
The simple pondering was cast aside as Wen Yu looked at the fatigued Tang Haofei, slowly lowering his body and ignoring the dreadful environment around them. He sat down beside Tang Haofei.
Lighting up two cigarettes, he shoved one into Old Tang's mouth. The rich smoke spread as Wen Yu glanced around the horrifying "slaughterhouse" before them. "So, what happened? It seems like something incredible went down."
"What incredible thing could have happened?!"
Wen Yu's comment caused Tang Haofei to chuckle in disbelief, his expression relaxing considerably.
Then, a simple recount of the "slaughter" process spilled from Tang Haofei's mouth.
...
After Wen Yu was teleported away by the Heaven-Piercing Demon Vine, Tang Haofei was left to face Wu Long alone.
The outcome was—Tang Haofei was utterly pummeled by Wu Long...
Even after having resurrected twice, Tang Haofei still lacked the strength to defeat Wu Long!
Although the challenger trials had sounded an alarm, there was still a significant gap in strength. The result of their "fair duel" was evident—Tang Haofei died, while Wu Long sustained light injuries...
And then, the "unfair duel" began.
After Tang Haofei resurrected for the third time, he was already able to keep up with Wu Long’s seemingly teleported speed, and his attacking power surpassed Wu Long. The outcome was that Wu Long fled while Tang Haofei pursued relentlessly.
