The next morning, when Wen Yu walked downstairs to eat, the entire hall was already shaken by the news from Li Quan'an.
"Have you heard? Chaihe Town has restored order, and we are going to Chaihe Town tomorrow."
"How come I didn't know?"
"You came late. Mayor Li just mentioned it before the meal. It seems Mayor Li received a notice that Chaihe Town has been completely taken over by the government. Now we have hope."
"That's right. I can't stand living without water and electricity any longer."
Watching the people in the hall whispering to each other, Wen Yu couldn't help but shake his head.
Were they foolish? No, in this day and age, there are no fools. The reason these people appeared foolish was merely due to information asymmetry.
This is the source of the tragedy for the lower ranks. They are sold out and yet still help others count the money.
Sitting silently at an empty table, food and drinks were naturally handed to him by the people nearby. Wen Yu turned his head and saw it was Bai Xiao'an.
"Brother Wen Yu, tomorrow, it won't be as they discuss, right?"
Seeing Bai Xiao'an hesitating to speak, Wen Yu shook his head.
"What you need to know, you will know naturally. No need to ask me."
After saying this, he ignored Bai Xiao'an and picked up his chopsticks to eat heartily.
Wen Yu had just glanced around the hall, and many professionals had not participated in the discussion at all. Instead, they were seriously observing their surroundings. It was clear that these people knew the truth.
"Thud." A food tray heavily slammed in front of Wen Yu.
Wen Yu frowned and looked up.
The person was Sun Ruixing, whose eyes were red and filled with killing intent as he stared at Wen Yu.
"What happened, Brother Sun, who offended you?" Wen Yu merely glanced at Sun Ruixing and then turned his attention back to the food. Wasting food was not a good habit.
"Brother Wen Yu, I need an explanation." Sun Ruixing stared intensely at Wen Yu, trying to find any signs of guilt or unease on his face.
Unfortunately, he found nothing.
"What explanation do you want? Hmm, this mutated beast meat is quite good." Taking a big bite of food, Wen Yu saw through Sun Ruixing's thoughts and had to admit that Sun Ruixing was continuously wearing down the little goodwill Wen Yu had left for him.
Sun Ruixing lowered his voice and said sternly, "It’s about tomorrow’s plan. Don't you think you owe those who haven't transferred an explanation?"
Hearing Sun Ruixing's accusation, Wen Yu put down his chopsticks and replied to Sun Ruixing with a hint of indifference, "How have I wronged them? What I’m doing is just trying to find a way out for the entire Birch Forest Town."
Sun Ruixing clenched his fists, gritting his teeth, and said quietly, "They are doomed. Do you know they are doomed? Their ability to act can't get them out."
"Oh, so that's what you're talking about. I know they can't get out." Wen Yu's indifferent words echoed in Sun Ruixing's ears, leaving him more shocked.
"Although they can't escape, their lives can allow more people to escape. If we follow what you, Brother Sun, said, without these people as bait, even more professionals would die. If that’s the case, shouldn't I feel guilty about those who have died?"
"Brother Sun, you have lived this long. I thought you could be a bit clearer about such issues, but your reasoning really disappoints me. In fact, I intended to bring you along earlier; it seems my choice back then was very wise."
"Life has never been equivalent. Sacrificing the lives of the strong for the weak is an unfair expression."
"In this matter, you shouldn't blame me. You can blame yourself for not being strong enough; you can blame these weak ones for not seizing the opportunity to become stronger; you can even blame this messed-up world. But if you place the blame on me, Li Quan'an, or other professionals, that’s where you’re wrong."
"Saving people is a kindness; not saving people is a duty. By the way, you might not even survive yourself, so I really don't understand why you are considering others' lives and deaths."
