“Beep beep beep.” The crisp sound of a horn echoed from outside the villa where Wen Yu was staying.
The villa had excellent soundproofing, but it couldn't withstand Wen Yu's keen hearing. Even though a person's hearing can filter out some useless noise, it couldn't escape the persistent honking of the car that lasted nearly three minutes.
Glancing at the time, it was already 7 AM. He had to admit that this sleep had been quite comfortable. Perhaps it was due to a day spent traveling, leaving him physically exhausted.
After rubbing his face a bit, Wen Yu walked directly out of his room and picked up Du Yan, heading straight to the bathroom.
After a quick wash, Wen Yu donned a black trench coat and exited the villa.
At the entrance, Kuang Liu had already been waiting for nearly 30 minutes.
...
The military headquarters was located in the center of the Inner City, just a ten-minute drive from where Wen Yu lived.
Looking at the building in front of him, Wen Yu smacked his lips.
The Beijing City People's Government sign and the national emblem were dazzling under the direct sunlight.
“Let’s go,” Kuang Liu said casually, adjusting his outfit as he walked directly towards the headquarters.
Given Kuang Liu's status, there was no need for complicated security checks. He merely showed his identification, and they proceeded inside until they arrived at the door of an office.
“Commander Lin is inside. You can go in by yourself; I have some work to handle,” Kuang Liu said, appearing somewhat uneasy when facing this office, or more accurately, the person inside.
From Kuang Liu's introduction yesterday, Wen Yu already knew that Commander Lin was Kuang Liu's father. However, seeing Kuang Liu's demeanor, it was evident that there were some family matters at play.
Wen Yu nodded at Kuang Liu and stepped into the office.
The office was spacious and nicely decorated. Of course, with Wen Yu's experience, he couldn't really discern what made the decorations good; he just felt that it looked comfortable!
In front of a large solid wood desk sat an elderly man with white hair. Hearing the door open, he glanced up and down at Wen Yu before smiling and saying,
“You're Wen Yu, right? Please, sit.”
Wen Yu wasn't being polite and directly sat down in the chair in front of the desk. He looked at Commander Lin, then at Xing, who was standing on the desk, and Zhuque, who was perched on Xing's back.
Noticing Wen Yu's gaze, Lin Haifeng smiled and spoke,
“Yesterday your spirit pet had a great time playing with Zhuque. Last night, Zhuque brought Xing over to my home for dinner. I hope you don’t mind.”
Wen Yu shook his head.
“If you can feed him, I'm grateful enough. By the way, Xing has quite the appetite, right...”
Hearing Wen Yu's words, Lin Haifeng appeared somewhat embarrassed.
Xing had just grabbed Zhuque off his head and flew up to perch on Wen Yu's head, mumbling continuously.
“This old man is not considerate. He promised to treat me to a meal, but halfway through, he said the food at home wasn’t enough…”
Xing's mental waves enveloped all living beings present, so of course, Lin Haifeng heard it too, causing his face to turn red.
Meanwhile, Zhuque chirped in.
“Isn’t it because you eat too much, as if you’ve never eaten in a lifetime, and you eat so rudely…”
“Isn’t it you who said you’d treat me to a meal and told me to eat freely… you tricked me…”
“It’s you who eats too much…”
“It’s you…”
“Alright, alright.”
Wen Yu was the first to interrupt the two divine beast species. These two guys were chattering nonstop, leaving no room for anyone else to speak!
Upon hearing Wen Yu's words, Xing immediately settled down, lying still on Wen Yu's head like a large hat.
Zhuque rolled its eyes at Wen Yu and flew onto Lin Haifeng's shoulder, falling silent.
...
Looking at the elderly man in his fifties, Wen Yu spoke up.
“I wonder if Commander Lin wants to see me today regarding a mission?”
Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Lin Haifeng nodded and replied,
