Under the night sky of Chaihe Town, Wen Yu quietly sat on the top floor of a residential building in the gathering point, watching the dead silence of this small town and, in the distance, the Demon Realm Gate...
"What are you thinking about?"
A familiar voice came from behind.
It was Sun Ruixing.
"Nothing," Wen Yu replied without turning his head.
Sun Ruixing walked over to Wen Yu, put down a plastic bag in his hand, and pulled out a can of beer, stuffing it into Wen Yu's hand.
Wen Yu raised an eyebrow as he watched Sun Ruixing take out another can of beer.
"Weren't you going to keep me company for a drink? There’s too much going on; you forgot, but I haven’t!"
Sun Ruixing tilted his head and downed the liquid in the can, shrugging at Wen Yu.
"Tsk tsk, I really forgot!"
Sighing, Wen Yu shook his head.
Back at the camp, first it was Zhang Wenhu's question, then the issues of the Battlefield of the Two Realms; it had genuinely made Wen Yu overlook such "trivial matters."
"Wait for me; I'm going to buy something."
After Wen Yu finished speaking, he jumped directly from the top floor.
For a third-level practitioner, a seven-story height was not too high.
Before long, Wen Yu returned with a bunch of food and drinks in hand.
"Here, this much is enough for us to eat and drink, Duyuan, go watch the door."
"Bark bark."
"Every time something good happens, you never call me..."
Duyuan complained in grievance, but still slowly walked to the stairs leading to the top floor.
Poor Duyuan, once again reduced to a tool for night watch.
"Let’s drink; with Duyuan here, we don't have to worry about drinking too much."
Wen Yu opened a bottle of Shizhu brand white liquor and tilted his head to gulp it down.
For a time, between the two, only the sound of drinking echoed, and neither of them spoke first.
After a while, Sun Ruixing looked at the towering Demon Realm Gate in the distance and murmured as if to himself, "How many people do you think will survive this time?"
Wen Yu shook his head.
"I don't know, but there probably won't be many."
"I think so too."
Sighing, Sun Ruixing took a sip of his drink.
Having experienced the power of the demonic clan, Sun Ruixing was quite pessimistic about the outcome of this Battlefield of the Two Realms.
"Do you think this time it's my fault? If I hadn’t stopped Zhang Lifai from killing Bai Feifei..."
Wen Yu shook his head.
"Don't think too much; given the current situation, we can only fight. Thinking about other things is meaningless."
Wen Yu advised reassuringly.
"I can't help but think about these things. If it weren't for this damned apocalypse, I might still be living an ordinary life. After a few more years, I could be holding my grandson. Sometimes, thinking back, a plain life is the best!"
After Sun Ruixing finished sighing, he tilted his head and downed the rest of his drink.
"Yeah, a plain life is the best."
"Haha, I didn’t expect you to say that, bro."
Sun Ruixing suddenly changed from his earlier somber demeanor, throwing an arm around Wen Yu's shoulder and laughing heartily.
"I think you fit perfectly into this world; your strength is great, and you won't be dragged down by irrelevant matters. More importantly, you have no attachments!"
Hearing Sun Ruixing's words, Wen Yu quietly drank a bit and tossed aside the half-eaten chicken wing he held.
"I’m quite annoyed too, you know!"
Wen Yu said with a smile. Then, his voice suddenly grew somber.
"Actually, no one truly adapts to this world, this damned world!"
"If I could return to my previous life, I would gladly do so. In the past, although I had no goals and no direction, at least I didn’t have to think every day about how to survive!"
"Since the apocalypse started, I don't know how many times I've nearly lost my life, yet I've stubbornly made it through."
"I don’t want to fight if I can avoid it, but I want to live more."
"I have to fight, I have to battle, I have to become stronger!"
"This is the current situation for all survivors."
"But that’s not called living. Living shouldn't just be about killing and becoming stronger. This is merely surviving, barely clinging to life!"
