“Understood,” Zhang Lifai replied and turned to walk towards Bai Feifei.
“Wait, I just want to say something,” Bai Feifei spoke up.
Her serious gaze was fixed on Wen Yu, who was devouring his food.
“Get out!”
Zhang Lifai didn’t care what Bai Feifei wanted to say. The situation was simple; Bai Feifei had delayed his dad’s invitation to Wen Yu, causing both him and his dad to lose face!
It was predictable that if things continued as they were, once Wen Yu and the others left, Bai Feifei would have a very miserable outcome.
It would be worse than cleaning toilets!
Feeling Bai Feifei's gaze on him, Wen Yu raised his head and looked seriously into her eyes.
In his bloodshot eyes, there was a sense of determination.
Wen Yu didn’t know what this determination represented, but that didn’t stop him from not wanting to listen to a weak person’s wailing or venting.
Because it was meaningless!
Just as Wen Yu was about to continue dealing with the food in front of him, a flicker of black light flashed through Bai Feifei’s eyes.
“Then, let me help you one last time!”
That androgynous voice echoed in Bai Feifei’s mind, followed by a barely perceptible mental wave that surged directly into Wen Yu's mind.
Everyone, including Wen Yu, was completely unaware of this!
Bai Feifei knew that this should be that black light expending its last bit of power to influence Wen Yu's thoughts and ideas.
And the effect was obvious!
“Wait.”
Wen Yu, who had just placed his chopsticks onto the mutated beast meat, paused and slowly spoke.
“Let her speak.”
Wen Yu said calmly.
He had initially not wanted to listen to any nonsense, but now, he suddenly felt that listening to a weak person’s outpouring might be a nice accompaniment to his meal.
The power of the black light had already influenced Wen Yu’s thoughts!
“Lifai, didn’t you hear your Uncle Wen Yu? Let her speak!”
With Zhang Wenhu’s words, Zhang Lifai put down his outstretched hand and sat back in his original position.
“Go ahead.”
Wen Yu quietly watched Bai Feifei.
...
“When I was 8 years old, my parents died in a car accident, leaving behind only a small amount of money and my 5-year-old brother, An.”
“At that time, our relatives considered us a burden and were unwilling to adopt us, so we could only live with our grandfather.”
“I understood the hardships of life from a young age. I dropped out of school early to take care of household matters.”
“An grew up in such an environment. I did everything I could to provide him with a good environment because I knew I could be useless, but An cannot!”
“I can sell my body to get what I need to survive, but An cannot!”
“Fortunately, An is very smart; his academic performance has always been excellent, and my efforts were not in vain...”
At this point, Bai Feifei paused, looking at Wen Yu, who was still eating and drinking.
“But then the apocalypse came, and everything changed!”
“What used to be considered a resource—my looks—became the source of all evil!”
“You think I’m just a whore, but do I really want to be one?”
“I don’t want to. You all forced me into this. I’m timid and weak; I’m afraid to kill zombies, and so is An. I’ve taught him many things, but I never taught him how to protect himself, how to fight.”
“Neither An nor I can fight, but that doesn’t stop us from wanting to live!”
“Exactly, I’ve never thought of being superior to anyone. I just simply want to survive!”
“To survive, I have to stick close to whoever is strong. I will cling to them like a fly, using my body to barter for a sliver of hope to continue living. What’s wrong with that?”
“Answer me, what’s wrong with that?”
Bai Feifei stared intently at Wen Yu, her tone somewhat forceful.
Wen Yu put down his chopsticks and looked seriously into Bai Feifei's tear-filled eyes, slowly shaking his head.
“You are not wrong.”
“But, what’s the point of what you’re saying?”
