“Gul, huh...”
Wen Yu Three smiled as he looked down at the little ancient demon, who was less than a year old. The corners of his mouth slowly lifted, as if he had encountered something interesting.
However, Gul was completely unaware of the strange "uncle" in front of him. He quickly tore open the chocolate's wrapper and devoured the piece of chocolate, which had a rare origin, with a voracious appetite. The sound of his chewing echoed and attracted the attention of many nearby demonic creatures.
But these ancient demons were not low enough to snatch snacks from a child.
Only after Gul finished the chocolate did he gently bow to Wen Yu Three, then moved his feet and disappeared into the distance in the blink of an eye.
“Not even a thank you, really...”
Wen Yu Three maintained his smile, only slightly voicing his complaint.
A little ancient demon, capable of a level three strength at just under a year old, certainly hinted at something not so simple.
But this was not a major concern for Wen Yu Three. He cast these thoughts aside and walked toward the concentration camp.
…
The underground warehouse, which could barely accommodate ten thousand people, was crammed with five thousand. Although the space was not overly crowded, each ancient demon had limited territory to claim.
One ancient demon, one single-person tent—that was all.
Wen Yu Three strolled through the not-so-large underground warehouse and soon found his own tent. He crawled inside and casually tossed his tattered belongings into a corner of the tent, then sat cross-legged and transmitted a mental wave.
“Wen Yu Three is in position, but I still want to ask, One, what exactly do you mean by transferring me to this concentration camp?”
Soon, a response came from afar.
“It’s because you’re so uninteresting that I need you to find something to do. Keep an eye on Marquez without raising his suspicion, and don’t let anyone disturb Marquez's little hobby. As for the rest... I’ll have Lei send the things over tonight. You need to invade Marquez's Soul Core and see if his condition is the same as Lei's.”
In the end, One also earnestly reminded him.
“Make sure you don’t kill him. Lei and Marquez are the only two successful specimens we have left. If they’re gone, our progress in cracking the human-demon transformation technique will be painfully slow.”
“Got it, got it...”
Listening to One's ramblings, Wen Yu Three rolled his eyes and decisively cut the mental link.
Wen Yu Three was, of course, Wen Yu's third avatar—one that was idly staying in the Layered Battlefield.
Given the peculiar identities of Lei and Marquez, Wen Yu placed monitoring restrictions on Lei, but he figured that Lei shouldn't encounter any problems.
On the other hand, monitoring Marquez was also necessary—at the very least, Wen Yu needed to ensure that Marquez's little hobby wouldn’t create too much of a stir. He also had to ensure that someone who didn’t know the full story wouldn’t uncover Marquez's little tricks and then act without warning to eliminate the potential threat.
Keeping Marquez was naturally a promise Wen Yu made with Lei beforehand—this was a promise that needed to be upheld.
Wen Yu had plenty of means to thoroughly analyze Marquez without him being aware, and given the absolute importance of Lei and Marquez as specimens, Wen Yu believed that rather than dragging Marquez back to the lab, it was better to let him maintain the status quo. In this way, Marquez would be more “cooperative” in helping Wen Yu complete the analysis of the successful specimens.
This led to the activation of Wen Yu Three.
He voluntarily transformed into a level three ancient demon and smoothly infiltrated the small concentration camp established by Marquez with Lei's assistance.
With Wen Yu's strength, such an action would undoubtedly be error-free.
…
Wen Yu Three, feeling bored, sat in the tent for a while before crawling out of it.
He aimlessly wandered around the concentration camp until dinner time, when he finally saw Lei and Marquez again.
