“Hey, Wen Yu, I was wondering how you obtained your hidden profession? Of course, if it's inconvenient for you to answer, just consider me being nosy.”
Although Duan Wenfeng did not pry into what Wen Yu's hidden profession was, he was clearly very curious about how it came to be.
Duan Wenxue also remained quiet, her beautiful big eyes fixed intently on Wen Yu, clearly eager to know the answer to this question.
“Actually, it's not inconvenient at all.”
Wen Yu hesitated for a moment; the question about the hidden profession wasn't really a secret. With dawn approaching, he needed to head to Riverside Park, and whether they would meet again was still uncertain.
Moreover, Wen Yu didn't mind making good people a bit stronger. After all, he had witnessed the sorrow of a world ruled by evil, where morality collapsed, and the weak continued to weaken their own race's power. He didn't want to meddle in the larger issues, nor could he, but he wasn’t stingy about helping those who were kind.
The main reason was that there was no conflict of interest at all, which was why he decided to answer.
“I saw a swirling silver-white vortex, and once I entered, I realized it was a treasure land. Inside, there was a treasure chest containing a Job Change Scroll for a hidden profession.”
Hearing Wen Yu's explanation, the three-person team fell into contemplation, and Wen Yu had nothing more to say, leading to a moment of silence.
“Wen Yu, are you going to be all alone today?”
After a short pause, once the three had digested the news about the hidden profession, Duan Wenxue was the first to ask.
“Yes.” Wen Yu nodded silently and replied softly.
“Why not join our team? It’s safer for a few of us to hunt zombies together and earn points than to go solo.”
Duan Wenfeng was clearly envious of Wen Yu’s hidden profession, knowing well that its combat power would not be low.
For a solitary powerhouse without malicious intent, he was certainly a target any team would want to recruit.
Although the apocalypse had just begun, some survival modes or acknowledged rules, such as hunting teams, had quietly emerged. One had to say, humanity’s adaptability was incredibly strong.
“Let’s skip that. I’m more accustomed to being alone.”
Wen Yu pretended to think for a moment before rejecting Duan Wenfeng's suggestion.
What a joke! Even if you guys become impressive later, as a reborn individual, teaming up with you all just to let you pick up the scraps behind me? Am I supposed to play the nanny and clean up after you? What’s the point of my second chance at life then?
“That's really too bad.”
Wen Yu smiled apologetically at Duan Wenfeng.
……
The night passed peacefully.
At dawn, Wen Yu was awakened by the sound of light footsteps. He looked up to see Duan Wenfeng quietly getting up, evidently trying not to disturb his sleeping sister.
With an apologetic smile towards Wen Yu, he tiptoed downstairs.
“He's really a kind person.”
Watching the warm scene before him, Wen Yu felt a little touched. After all, humans typically appreciate beautiful things.
Wen Yu glanced out the window; it was fully light outside, and he checked the clock on the wall—it was 7 AM.
He casually unhooked the small traps he had set, grabbed his gear, and slowly made his way downstairs.
Downstairs, Duan Wenfeng had just exited the bathroom and spotted Wen Yu fully armed.
“Wen Yu, are you heading out?”
“Yes, I’m going out to kill some zombies and gather more points,” Wen Yu replied.
Looking at the tall man before him, Wen Yu hesitated for a moment. Although he knew they might never meet again, he couldn't help but offer a warning.
“If you guys plan to go hunting today, it'd be best to avoid the Golden Capital Community. There’s a very strong monster there— a mutated giant dog. It would be better to change locations tonight.”
Thinking about a creature like a dog, known for its keen sense of smell, Wen Yu couldn’t help but feel anxious. Level one mutated creatures had strong recovery capabilities and would likely be fully healed by tomorrow.
