“Out of bullets, go get a few boxes!”
“We need this side too!”
“What about the shells? Preferably the gray level ones, bring a few!”
On the walls of the Summit Pass Base, many people were shouting. The loudest among them was a middle-aged man with a full beard.
In the apocalypse, this appearance was almost the preferred choice for most men. With everyone struggling on the brink of death every day, most lacked the extra energy and thought to tidy up their appearance.
“I’m telling you, Little Zhao, are you fking listening to us or not!”
The middle-aged man, who was clamoring for bullets, saw that the person responsible for logistics hadn’t moved, and immediately began to curse.
“No, look, those monsters seem to be retreating.”
This person pointed outside and said in a daze.
Others looked over and indeed discovered that the green-skin monsters, which had followed the people from Area C in pursuit for hours without success, began to retreat rapidly after their attacks on the Summit Pass Base.
Just like how they had come: fierce and swift.
The guards at the Summit Pass Base felt a lingering fear for these creatures that could climb the city walls with bare hands. If it weren’t for the high walls and strong defenses above, these green-skin monsters might have truly charged in, leading to a bloody massacre.
They had witnessed the grim state of those who had returned from Area C. The people on the walls represented nearly seventy percent of the defensive power of Peak Mountain. If they were to lose, this base established by several major resistance zones would crumble.
Fortunately, these creatures retreated.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but suddenly the sounds of battle erupted from within the base, only to quickly subside. The guards felt a sense of confusion, not knowing what had happened.
Inside the Summit Mountain Base, Ji Rui Guang, who had just returned from the roulette space, caught up with his subordinates and returned here. However, this commander-in-chief of Area C appeared to have aged ten years, his spirit low. Upon returning, besides ordering the troops to regroup and count casualties, he hid in his room, avoiding everyone.
It wasn’t until Mu Xinfey arrived and a conflict broke out due to her refusal to meet that Ji Rui Guang reappeared.
“Even if we lost significantly in Area C, do you think you can act arrogantly in front of me?” Ji Rui Guang’s expression was as bad as it could get.
This time, Area C had lost two-thirds of its elite forces, causing its power to plummet, now ranking last among the four major resistance zones. Area S’s situation was still poor, teetering on the edge of division, making them and Area C unlikely allies.
The largest resistance area had now become Zhang Hengtai's Area G, followed by Wen Zhong's Area T, with their strengths not differing much.
If it were Zhang Hengtai and Wen Zhong who barged in, Ji Rui Guang might have tolerated it, but he didn’t think Mu Xinfey had the strength to confront him.
Mu Xinfey, accompanied by Bai Shishi and a group of fully armed subordinates, smiled at Ji Rui Guang: “Thanks to you, the situation in Area S is a bit better than before.”
This single sentence made Ji Rui Guang’s face darken even further. He understood Mu Xinfey's implication: the forces in Area S that had previously been incited by Area C now saw their backing weakened and had begun to harbor different thoughts. Perhaps some eager ones had already pledged their loyalty to Mu Xinfey and her father again.
In a place where the relationships among resistance zones were so intricate, a single thread could affect the whole fabric.
“Don’t get agitated, I’m here just to relay a message and will leave after I’m done. It’s your subordinates who are being rude.”
“Just to relay a message?”
Ji Rui Guang narrowed his eyes, his anger rising.
“Yes.” Mu Xinfey glanced at him and continued, “Ye Zhongming asked me to tell you not to forget the mechanical fortress you owe him.”
