Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 789: "Invasion" 🌌

Published: February 10, 2025

“Commander, what should we do?”

Just moments ago, a Jingjue Floating Sphere flew to the C District battle department's position, delivering a message instructing them to break through towards another trapped reinforcement direction upon receiving the signal.

The adjutant was unsure what this meant and could only inquire with Delin.

Other surviving commanders from the battle department rushed over to the position where the floating sphere had landed, their faces showing clear hope.

Delin thought for a moment, also unclear about the meaning behind it. If it were an order from headquarters, he wouldn’t say anything and would simply execute it. But this was, after all… a message sent by others.

“Get ready; there’s still hope, isn’t there?”

Delin ultimately made the decision.

“Attack in two directions?”

Mu Xinfey frowned, unsure what the message from the Jingjue Floating Sphere meant.

When the floating sphere from Cloud Summit Villa reappeared, Mu Xinfey, like the others, was ecstatic. If it meant survival, who would wish to die?

But what exactly did this command from Ye Zhongming mean?

Attacking in one direction made sense to Mu Xinfey since that was the position of the trapped battle department in C District, perhaps to support them or relieve their pressure. However, launching an offensive in the other direction… wouldn’t that lead the monsters to misunderstand that humans were attempting to break out? If a large-scale melee ensued, the consequences would be dire.

Anman and Jas were actually not very satisfied with Ye Zhongming's meddling behavior; it made them feel inferior to him. But now that he was the only external reinforcements, they had to endure, whether they liked it or not.

“Could it be that they intend to charge in?”

Zhao Xingmei suddenly voiced a surprising thought that left everyone astonished.

Anman instinctively shook his head: “Impossible. What would they charge in for? To die? We all know how many people are in Cloud Summit; while diverting monsters on the periphery is useful, in a head-on confrontation, their numbers are insufficient.”

Jas didn’t say anything, merely snorted noncommittally.

Only Guangyao stroked his chin and, after some thought, felt the same way: “It shouldn’t happen; Zhongming isn’t that impulsive.”

Zhao Xingmei concentrated for a moment, “I still stand by my viewpoint, so everyone should be ready in advance.”

Zhao Jingcheng scoffed a couple of times: “Even if Ye Zhongming has gone mad, trying to break into the encirclement, do you think his subordinates have also lost their minds? Would they follow him to their deaths?”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Xingmei raised her brows slightly. Regardless of whether Ye Zhongming was right or wrong, his intentions were definitely good; he wanted to save people. At this moment, it was fine not to understand, but to mock or ridicule such actions was utterly heartless.

“Don’t measure others’ actions with your own standards; you’ll only end up with a slap in the face.” After Zhao Xingmei finished speaking, she didn’t even look at Zhao Jingcheng’s unpleasant expression and turned to instruct the people from Ying City to prepare for support. But finally, she explained to the similarly confused Mu Xinfey and Guangyao: “Ye Zhongming represents trust for the people of Ying City, while for those in Cloud Summit, he symbolizes faith. Don’t think that just these monsters, even if it’s a sea of fire and mountains of daggers, those people will follow him.”

…………………………………………………………………………

Ye Zhongming witnessed the power of the Mechanical Fortress for the first time.

His first thought was that this was a true war machine.

For the sake of conserving firepower, the two massive monsters hadn’t unleashed their full might; weapons using energy and ammunition had hardly fired. Yet even so, the numerous rapidly spinning metal blades extending from their bodies caused significant casualties to the attacking monsters.
