Ye Zhongming moved through the passages of the underground city, occasionally encountering humans with bloodshot eyes.
These were individuals driven mad by hunting. When the situation spiraled out of control, they had completely destroyed the foundation that allowed the underground city to exist.
If this citywide breakout did not succeed, the evolution of the survivors here would basically come to a halt, until they gradually perished.
Those people would never think that everything was intricately linked to the person they brushed past.
Of course, some foolish individuals wanted to snatch something from Ye Zhongming, but the result often reversed — they not only lost their lives but also saw most of their savings become offerings for the Gate of Sacrifice.
Ye Zhongming's speed was not fast. Although he had already scouted the route beforehand, the passages in the underground city sometimes looked too similar. If not for frequently encountering survivors whom he could question in a rough manner, he would have probably gotten lost long ago.
By the time he arrived at the base of the Tengsen team, half a day had already passed.
Unlike the chaos in other parts of the underground city, the base of the Tengsen team, though small, was unusually quiet.
Ye Zhongming had barely entered the edge of the camp when an arrow shot toward him.
Ye Zhongming casually tilted his head, avoiding it without even moving his body. A few seconds later, several figures emerged cautiously from the camp.
“Get lost if you’re just here to scrounge. This is the Tengsen team's territory!”
One person warned, aiming their bow and arrow at Ye Zhongming.
“I’m looking for Nogaei! Garan sent me.”
Ye Zhongming raised his hands to show he meant no harm.
The several individuals exchanged glances, and it was clear that Garan's name had eased some of their hostility, but their weapons were still pointed at Ye Zhongming.
“Wait here.”
One of them said and then ran back. Moments later, he returned with a few others. Among them, a man in his forties with terrifying scars on his face stepped forward, scrutinizing Ye Zhongming, and grunted, “Never seen you before.”
His voice sounded a bit strange, and as Ye Zhongming got closer, he could see the scar on the man's face extending down to his neck, indicating his vocal cords had likely been damaged.
It was hard to imagine how a person could survive such an injury; perhaps only an evolver could.
However, Ye Zhongming was somewhat puzzled. Since even Shasha’s birthmark could be eliminated through evolution, why was this scar so prominent?
“What did Garan say?”
The scarred man, Nogaei, not only had a strange name but also looked somewhat different from a typical Chinese person; he seemed to be of mixed heritage.
“I need a guide.”
Nogaei looked at Ye Zhongming with cold eyes, snorted, and turned to leave.
“I can offer you a high reward and do my best to ensure your safety.”
“I will never go back there, no matter what you offer.”
“Would a high-level purifying agent do?”
Their conversation was rapid, and as soon as Ye Zhongming finished speaking, Nogaei suddenly turned back, his eyes wide.
“What did you say?”
Ye Zhongming shrugged, “I said, I have a high-level purifying agent.”
The people behind him stirred restlessly, many taking a step closer.
Ye Zhongming paid them no mind and fished in his pocket, producing a vial of milky-white potion.
This was one of the two items Ye Zhongming had asked Yang Yixi to purchase.
Clearly, Nogaei's breathing became heavy.
“I heard about your son. This vial of high-level purifying agent is specially prepared for him. I believe that with this, you can completely eliminate the mutated nematodes in his body,” Ye Zhongming said with a confident smile.
Nogaei's son had been afflicted by a strange mutated worm that had entered his body, causing him to remain in a coma and grow increasingly emaciated. They had to rely on basic nutritional solutions and low-level purifying agents to keep him alive, but this was not a long-term solution. This approach could only delay the worms' assault on Nogaei's son's life, without addressing the root problem.
