Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 655: Life in the Dark Room 🖤

Published: February 9, 2025

The light was not very bright; it even flickered and vanished quickly. It was somewhat dim here; otherwise, even if there were a little more illumination, Ye Zhongming might not have noticed it.

However, in this quiet and dark room, even though Ye Zhongming had turned his head, the residual light catching a tiny change still made him spot that glimmer.

Ye Zhongming suddenly turned back and looked towards the source of the light, and he felt a hint of nervousness in his heart.

This was not surprising for Ye Zhongming.

It had been over a year since the apocalypse began, and not to mention the sealed Linhai, even other cities had long lost their power supply. While some factions, like Cloud Summit Villa, might seem to have lights, those were either self-generated or from generators they had found.

But in a sealed city, in a closed building, would there be electricity? Normally, there shouldn't be any.

Yet Ye Zhongming recognized that the light earlier must have come from some electrical device.

What did that mean? It meant someone was here!

But when Ye Zhongming entered, all the entrances were tightly wrapped with branches; it was impossible for someone to come in without leaving a trace. Could it be that someone had been trapped here all along?

Ye Zhongming walked slowly towards the light source, but after a few steps, he stopped, his ears twitching and his eyes narrowing.

From upstairs, the sound of the twin sisters suddenly engaging in battle reached his ears!

Were they ambushed together?

Was it a real coincidence or was someone controlling everything?

After listening for a few seconds, Ye Zhongming moved forward again. He had confidence in the twin sisters; even if the enemy from upstairs was Lin Xing, the two sisters could still confront him with Nono's outdoor companion's help.

So, let’s first see what this place is really about.

"Stop...!"

A voice suddenly rang out less than ten meters from the glowing source, causing Ye Zhongming to quickly shift his body and then halt.

After learning the great thousand soul refining technique and possessing a mental field, this was the first time Ye Zhongming noticed a life form entering his ten-meter radius without any prior detection!

A faint creaking sound came, and Ye Zhongming's gaze shifted; instinctively he retreated two meters, raising the edge of the moon in his hand, ready to attack!

Using the faint light from the entrance, Ye Zhongming could vaguely see what had suddenly appeared.

A tree person!?

Standing over two and a half meters tall, it had human facial features, but its skin was like brown bark. Its arms bore wooden patterns, and the parts exposed to the air even had tree-specific knots!

Its legs were thick and long, already resembling something less human, starting to become tree-like as well.

What was most horrifying were its hands and feet, which were entirely composed of four dry branches, sharp at the tips with thick joints.

The tree person was draped in a large, tattered blanket that looked as if it had been stretched open by its body.

"Get... out...!"

It was still that hoarse and difficult voice, not loud but piercing, as one arm rose to point at Ye Zhongming.

Ye Zhongming did not move but was sensing the situation. However, the result was the same as before. Even though this tree person stood right in front of him, in his perception, it simply did not exist, or rather, it perfectly blended into the surrounding environment.

This was a situation Ye Zhongming had never encountered before.

Since he couldn't sense the existence of this tree person, he naturally couldn't determine its evolutionary level.

Out of caution, Ye Zhongming knew that the safest course of action upon encountering such a strange occurrence was to leave immediately.

When it was time to fight, he wouldn't hold back; when it wasn't, he would flee as far as possible. This was the essential rule for survival in the apocalypse.

But the equipment here was what Ye Zhongming needed. Back home, there was a 'Nobel Prize' level Red Creator waiting for these machines to create gene warriors worth no less than magic crystal weapons for Cloud Summit Villa. How could he be scared away by a monster's two words?
