First, Ye Zhongming crafted himself a Thousand Leaf Scale Armor, of green level.

With the precedent of Xia Bai being pierced by mutated plants in her silver armor, Ye Zhongming felt that at least green level protective gear was necessary to ensure he could engage in prolonged battles.
