Two pickup trucks drove through the wilderness, where there was not a trace of life in sight.
Big Milk Wei was driving, and she glanced at the young man sitting in the passenger seat, his face cold and stern, giving her an unreal feeling.
Earlier that morning, her boss—no, her former boss—had sent a message to this young man. She vaguely knew it was about this new boss's control over the forces, but she couldn't discern anything from his face. However, she did know that she and her brother were quite lucky.
This new boss had agreed to let them temporarily follow him after reading the message.
Of course, the process wouldn’t be so smooth, as she and her brother were part of the Peace Hotel, and that white-clad man from the Ogre Chain wouldn’t easily let them go.
Yet, when this new boss presented two bottles of three-star evolution elixirs to the person in charge, the attitude shifted dramatically.
Big Milk Wei once again realized the apocalypse truth: everyone has a price.
"Stop!"
The new boss suddenly shouted, and Big Milk Wei quickly slammed on the brakes.
"Do you see it?"
Ye Zhongming got out of the vehicle, and Big Milk Wei, her brother Ayang, and another ten people hurriedly followed suit.
"Zombies?"
Ayang, only seventeen, had developed a fierce and resolute appearance from the harsh survival of the apocalypse, more so than his peers from before the end times.
"Go take them out."
Everyone looked at Ye Zhongming in unison.
There was a small group of zombies wandering in the wild, not many in number, only about twenty.
But among them, there was clearly one with mutated features—a grade 2 zombie.
However, among Ayang and the others, only this young man was an evolver; the rest were just ordinary people.
This was also the reason why Big Milk Wei felt so insecure last night.
Who would want a group of ordinary people as subordinates?
"What's wrong? Didn't your sister say you all would do anything to follow me? Even if it meant dying, and now you’re all scared to deal with a few zombies?"
"B-boss..."
"I'm not your boss yet."
Some teenagers, almost the same age as Ayang, wanted to explain, but were ruthlessly interrupted after just a word.
"Xiao Jun, don’t say anything. The numbers are a bit overwhelming, but we’re not without a plan!" Ayang scolded one of his younger brothers, then waved his hand, leading the group of sixteen or seventeen-year-olds to charge forward.
Seeing this, Ye Zhongming felt slightly disappointed. Big Milk Wei, who had been observing, felt her heart sink, realizing this new boss was somewhat displeased, though she didn’t know why.
However, the youngsters slowed down halfway, using the dead wild grass for cover, dispersing to approach the crowd of zombies slowly. Ayang, as the only evolver, began to peel away from the group, sneaking towards a farther side.
Ye Zhongming's previously disappointed expression brightened again as he started to focus.
Ayang appeared about a dozen meters away, drawing the attention of the group of zombies, and then started to run at an angle. The zombies began to chase; the grade 2 one was notably faster, and within seconds, they had already created a gap.
The boys who had been lying in wait sprang into action, using their long screwdrivers and daggers to target the zombies at the back and the edges. They struck quickly, fiercely, and with great accuracy.
Ye Zhongming noticed that the youngest, a slender girl, had made one mistake due to her height, failing to stab a towering zombie’s vital point, but her companion quickly compensated for the error.
In just two minutes, more than half of the zombies had been eliminated, and not a single one of these youngsters had been harmed.
Of course, this was only temporary; Ayang, who had attracted the grade 2 mutated zombie, was already being closely pursued, and the disparity in levels put him in extreme danger.
Ye Zhongming shook his head, not out of regret but for another reason. If all these kids were one-star evolvers, then considering their level of cooperation, it wouldn’t be hard for them to team up to take down that grade 2 zombie. Unfortunately, there was only one evolver among them, while the others were ordinary people. Even though they were quick and accurate against regular zombies, when facing a grade 2, their quick and precise attacks turned into slow and weak attempts.
