Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 39: Food and Playthings 🍽️✨

Published: January 31, 2025

The bullet, trailing flames, pierced the glass and shot into the dark night sky, the massive gunshot echoing between the buildings.

After the gunfire, an eerie moment of silence fell over the campus.

Then, the unique roars of zombies suddenly erupted!

The supermarket was only a few hundred meters away, where thousands of zombies were gathering.

Although the unevolved zombies moved slowly, that distance could be covered in less than a minute. In other words, the armed department had less than a minute to escape!

Even if these students couldn’t fire a gun, in the face of thousands of zombies, even a regular army would only be able to fight while retreating.

Ordinary zombies appeared weak, but once they formed a swarm, even a six-star evolver like Ye Zhongming from his past life would have to avoid them.

“You motherf—!”

Fifth Brother roared, raising his gun to shoot at Ye Zhongming, but Ye Zhongming had already dragged Mo Ye back into the room. After a series of crashes, the three of them, including a dog, broke the window and jumped down.

Ye Zhongming and Mo Ye’s escape completely marked the start of the survivors’ flight from the armed department on the second floor.

It had been nearly ten hours since the apocalypse began, and these people had witnessed too many scenes of zombies devouring humans. Now, with the collective roars of zombies gradually approaching, they couldn’t care about anything else.

Most people instinctively ran towards the stairs, fully aware that failing to escape the building before the zombies arrived meant certain death.

The corridor was narrow, and as these people rushed towards the stairs, they inevitably became packed together. Fifth Brother and several underlings were caught in the throng. Originally, they wanted to leverage their privileges to move ahead, but at this moment, the fear of zombies had already surpassed their fear of Fifth Brother.

Er Peng and others had just kicked a student when they were pushed aside by others. They grabbed someone wanting to fight back, but the previously docile student bit Er Peng’s arm, staring at him with blood-red eyes, clearly indicating—don’t block the way, or we’ll die together.

Fifth Brother, Er Peng, and the others felt weak. They realized that if they continued their previous behavior, these panicking students would indeed eat them alive.

The stairs were too narrow, too many people, and they were stuck there, shouting and roaring in chaos.

Fifth Brother pushed the people in front of him with all his strength but couldn’t budge them at all. He was getting anxious, knowing that if they delayed any longer, they really wouldn’t make it out.

“Er Peng, Gang Zi, Akun! Follow me!”

The three subordinates, drenched in sweat, immediately fell in line behind Fifth Brother, heading backwards.

This direction faced less resistance; as soon as they made way, it was immediately occupied by others.

“Jump out!”

Fifth Brother and his group brandished their guns and began smashing the windows. Once they saw it was safe enough, they didn’t care about the remaining shards of glass and jumped down.

Many others chose to jump out rather than take the stairs, some even faster than them. For example, the nasal-voiced guy almost immediately turned around and ran back as soon as Ye Zhongming fired his gun.

Then there was Liang Chuyin; she seemed to have a knack for escaping. Once the situation became chaotic, she stepped onto the windowsill and jumped down, never even heading towards the stairs. This allowed her to escape the armed department first, and her escape route was very clear... towards Ye Zhongming.

Seeing Fifth Brother, Liang Chuyin, and others jump out the window, many students and teachers still stuck on the stairs suddenly snapped out of it. Those trapped at the back rushed to the window and jumped down. A height of about three meters posed little obstacle for those in their twenties.

At that moment, some nearby zombies had already reached the bottom of the armed department. One unfortunate student, after jumping down, was pounced on by a zombie that had come from the side. In a scream, half of his face was bitten off. As he struggled to stand up and continue fleeing, another zombie grabbed his ankle, biting off several toes.
