“Don't come any closer, or we'll fire!”
Tong Lei held an old type 56 semi-automatic rifle, his fingers gripping the stock turning pale from tension.
He had to be nervous because he was facing a group of ruthless criminals.
During the disaster, Tong Lei was fortunate to have hidden in the dormitory building's reception room, where he witnessed scenes more gruesome and brutal than those in horror movies, seeing thick layers of blood and pieces of flesh splattered across the nearly spotless windows and doors of the reception room.
After hiding for several hours, feeling both hungry and thirsty, he chose to venture out in search of food. He initially planned to go to the campus supermarket, but before he could enter, he noticed countless zombies converging around him, allowing him to escape in time and hide in the armed forces department, only to encounter some classmates, including Liang Chuyin, who was now a social media influencer… and this group of thugs.
Tong Lei heard several surviving classmates crying out accusations against these people, learning about the heinous crimes committed by this group of idle folks in the cafeteria, and realized that they had made it this far at the cost of students' lives.
Tong Lei was enraged by these people, but that was all—just anger. He didn't even dare to utter any warnings.
It wasn't until Tong Lei and the seven or eight classmates behind him found some guns that they gathered the courage to confront these thugs.
Although they didn't even know if these guns could fire bullets.
Fifth Brother, cigarette in mouth and gun in hand, looked at these students with a face of indifference.
He felt quite frustrated inside; after a busy night, he had gained nothing.
He had initially thought he could benefit from digging up some crystals in a teaching building, only to have them snatched away.
Afterward, upon hearing gunfire from the tennis hall, he brought his people over, but aside from zombies, they found nothing else and encountered a terrifying large lizard that bit off one of his subordinate's head, scaring them into fleeing.
Returning afterward, he was even angrier. The students, who he had already subdued, grew bolder while he was away and with the addition of some newcomers. They not only took many guns from the armed forces department's arsenal but outright refused to be managed by him, Fifth Brother.
Though he regretted not leaving two subordinates to guard the arsenal, Fifth Brother didn't dwell on it too much.
He had experience with guns and knew that these type 56 semi-automatic rifles were outdated and poorly maintained. In the arsenal, there were plenty of these broken guns, but not many bullets. After he took some, the students only had a dozen bullets at most. What could they do with such limited ammunition? If a conflict arose, it was likely that these students, who only handled guns during military training, would shoot at the ceiling.
Moreover, he and several of his subordinates had guns, and plenty of bullets, enough to deal with this group of students.
Initially, he wanted to bide his time until morning, but a student who had allied with him told Fifth Brother that among these students, there was a woman holding a strange willow branch left behind by a man who could kill zombies as easily as slaughtering chickens!
This news made Fifth Brother restless. He was convinced that the man held a secret, and if he could grasp that secret, he too would become immensely powerful!
Thus, Fifth Brother demanded that the students hand over the woman with the willow branch.
Such a hardline stance immediately met with strong opposition from Teacher Park and others, who were already principled!
Now the number of students was considerable; they held guns and had gained a lot more courage, rising up in revolt under threats.
Yet, whether it was the leading Tong Lei or Teacher Park and others, they were all secretly afraid. After all, these people were not to be trifled with; if a conflict truly broke out, these students, who were no more than helpless lambs, wouldn’t know if they could withstand it.
