Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 303: Betrayal 🥀

Published: February 6, 2025

The sewing monk returned with dozens of wounds, his face resembling rotten flesh, just as expressionless as when he had set out earlier.

He had just fought against the grade 4 corpse king and the Rat King, but the reason for their confrontation was unclear to anyone, perhaps even to them. It was merely because their gazes interlocked in the air, leading to mutual disdain.

Clearly, the sewing monk had suffered some losses; the Rat King, soon to reach grade 5, was stronger.

However, both sides maintained restraint. The other three grade 4 corpse kings did not intervene, and the other grade 4 and numerous tier 2 and tier 3 mutated animals from their side also stayed put.

The sewing monk’s body looked as if it were a patchwork of a broken corpse, and indeed, it was. This particular type of zombie was unique; it could kill its own kind and install their special body parts onto itself, thus gaining incomplete abilities from those parts.

This was a type of zombie that both its kind hated and feared, but it was also quite powerful.

A heavy, black-armored zombie, resembling a steel cannon while squatting on the ground, glanced at the sewing monk and emitted a few strange sounds.

The sewing monk looked back at this blade armored monster and growled a couple of times, as if expressing dissatisfaction.

The other two grade 4 corpse kings were mostly in human form. One was covered in long green hair that continuously fluttered as it breathed, revealing the blood-red skin underneath; this was the bloodsucking zombie, a mutated life form fond of consuming fresh blood. The other had a single horn protruding from its head, with skin like hard rock and thick keratin formed around its neck to protect its vital areas.

This type of zombie was referred to as the bull demon by survivors in the past, and it was a relatively common variant.

At that moment, the zombie horde parted, and two remarkably different 'zombies' walked in, filthy and covered in blood.

The several corpse kings displayed surprise in their wooden eyes, for they could clearly see that these two unique 'kindred' had evolved.

“Ah, hiss!”

The corpse kings made sounds that grew increasingly intense. Red Hair stood still without any action, while the spirit woman replied a few times.

The surrounding zombie horde became restless; there was no way around it. Now, these two female zombies had become grade 4 existences, qualifying to become their kings.

The four corpse kings slowly surrounded the two women in the center, and both sides continued to communicate.

After a moment, it was unclear what the spirit woman said, but the corpse kings gradually quieted down. Although they looked at the two clean kindred with some confusion, they finally accepted the reality.

These two kindred did not intend to compete with them for leadership of the group.

Not long after they quieted down, a sudden burst of fighting erupted from the back of the group. The smell of blood and sweat from the humans gathering grew stronger, and the four corpse kings recalled the attack the mutated animal camp suffered yesterday, rushing angrily toward the back.

They would not give those humans a single chance.

The spirit woman and Red Hair exchanged glances before leisurely following behind.

The attackers on the zombie horde were, of course, from a small alliance, just like those who attacked the mutated animal camp yesterday. They engaged in guerrilla warfare, constantly eroding the zombies in front of them.

However, compared to yesterday, they were more coordinated and efficient, as there were few zombies with flying capabilities among them.

But unlike the extreme chaos of the mutated animals, the zombies displayed a clear order. Even though this order was relative, the four corpse kings approached the humans far more quickly than the Mutated Rat King.

The frustrations and anger built up in the four corpse kings over these days seemed to find an outlet, and they surged wildly toward the crowd.

They wanted slaughter, to reshape the zombie's dominance in the apocalypse with human blood and guts.
