Chapter:
"Little Yun, how have you been these days? Sigh, you don't know how worried your dad and I have been since the apocalypse began. You, a child who doesn't know anything, all alone outside, we really thought you... your dad's hair has turned white halfway."
Uncle Jia, as he descended the stairs, kept talking to Young Master Yun, who didn't seem impatient at all and just smiled and listened.
The apocalypse has been going on long enough to change anyone's character. Young Master Yun was no longer the spoiled rich kid he used to be but an excellent warrior tempered by the zombie tide.
He also understood that his uncle was saying these things because he missed him, but it was also to ease the awkwardness of going out to look for food.
In Ying City, anyone with a brain knew how dangerous it was to go out looking for food.
However, Young Master Yun didn't care; with the boss around, what couldn’t be resolved?
"Wait."
As the three of them reached the door of the building, Ye Zhongming suddenly stopped the two of them, signaling them to pause.
Uncle Jia opened his mouth to say something but was halted by his nephew. Two seconds later, footsteps were heard from outside.
Through the first-floor window, the three saw someone stumbling towards them from across the street. Although his form was unsteady, he was clearly faster than an ordinary person. An experienced person like Ye Zhongming could tell at a glance that this person was a one-star evolver.
However, behind this one-star evolver was a horde of zombies, numbering in the hundreds, none of which were evolved zombies, just ordinary ones.
Both Young Master Yun and Uncle Jia froze for a moment because this was a dead end, blocked ahead by a collapsed high-rise building.
Clearly, the one-star evolver was not familiar with the area and had accidentally run into this trap.
Seeing the huge ruins ahead, towering at least seventeen or eighteen meters high, the one-star evolver let out a desperate cry.
Although ordinary zombies weren't fast, the injured one-star evolver wouldn't have time to climb over this ruin before they arrived.
But he didn’t want to give up and began to climb up the ruins. Although there were places to exert force, there were also countless exposed rebar and sharp stones; every step had to be calculated carefully. As the zombie horde closed in, these zombies didn’t care about how difficult it was to climb, one after another, they scaled up, even piercing their bodies on the sharp objects. Under the immense psychological pressure, the one-star evolver lost his grip and fell back down.
Immediately, zombies grabbed his ankles, dragging him back to the ground. The one-star evolver struggled to push his way out; with every punch, he smashed a zombie's head. However, simultaneously, other zombies tore off pieces of flesh from him.
In just half a minute, the back and legs of this evolver were clawed open, exposing large areas of bone, before he was overwhelmed by the remaining zombies.
The three watched silently as the ordinary zombies devoured the evolver, one even evolved into a grade 2 zombie before lazily departing.
As they reached the street corner, suddenly a red shadow darted out. A fully red mutated bird snatched the recently evolved grade 2 zombie in its beak and instantly lifted it into the sky, throwing it against the wall of a building before the zombie could react. The enormous inertia and force turned it into a meat patty, while the mutated bird flapped its wings a few times and devoured the best parts of the grade 2 zombie.
This was the apocalypse; evolvers were strong, zombies were strong, and other mutated lifeforms were also growing stronger, mercilessly slaughtering each other, forming a new food chain and a stable yet mysterious ecosystem. Unless one side became extremely powerful, this situation would persist.
Ye Zhongming had never considered such matters in his previous life; he only knew to hunt mutated lifeforms, acquire magic crystals, and evolve himself.
