Strange noises occasionally echoed from the street behind the tennis hall, mostly human roars and cries of agony, along with the unwilling whimpers of those about to die.
At times, there were also sudden bursts of intense battle sounds, constantly reminding the five people within the peculiar atmosphere of the tennis hall that it was the apocalypse.
The three men, aside from the female police officer, exchanged glances, their eyes filled with suspicion and uncertainty.
Ye Zhongming looked young, with a delicate appearance and clear eyes, leaving a good first impression on anyone who saw him. However, the bloodstains on him were too conspicuous, and his machete seemed a bit strange, as if it had a faint halo around it.
It was already midnight, and in the quiet, empty tennis hall, outside were flesh-eating monsters. The sudden appearance of such a stranger would evoke this kind of reaction in anyone.
Especially since, although the world had only been chaotic for half a day, these fleeing individuals had witnessed much… the ugliness of human nature.
They couldn't guarantee that this suddenly appeared person wouldn’t pose a threat to them. Perhaps this kind of vigilance hadn’t formed a rule yet, but the concept of 'even kindred being dangerous' had already emerged in everyone's subconscious.
"You see, you have guns in hand, which is enough to guarantee your safety. If you agree, I will be the one to take the lead, and I will bear the danger. What else do you have to worry about?"
Ye Zhongming spread his hands, saying something that moved these people.
The four had just lost a companion, and even the female police officer with the gun wasn't sure about their next actions. Now that someone was willing to face danger proactively, it was a very tempting proposal.
Of course, all of this stemmed from their curiosity and desire for the mysterious object in the bathroom.
After experiencing the brief yet earth-shattering attack just moments ago, the survivors had reason to believe that miraculous things would continue to happen.
In fact, there indeed was a miraculous object in the bathroom.
The three men behind him were clearly tempted, while only the female police officer still hesitated, as her profession instilled in her an instinctual vigilance towards Ye Zhongming.
"Didn't you already lose one person? Because there’s a mad dog inside, right? If that’s the case, I think a knife would be much more useful than the gun in your hand."
Ye Zhongming said this while his eyes remained fixed on the gun in the police officer's hand, and the feeling of danger had not diminished.
The female police officer holding the gun exerted significant pressure on him. Ye Zhongming hadn’t expected to encounter such a situation.
"Okay, slowly walk over, and draw your knife while facing away from us."
After hesitating for a moment, the police officer finally agreed and made a request.
Ye Zhongming nodded in agreement and slowly walked to the bathroom door, standing with his back to the four as he drew his machete.
"What kind of knife is that?"
The man with a thick nasal voice finally couldn't hold back and asked about the strange weapon that seemed to flicker with light.
"A killing knife."
Ye Zhongming replied, causing the four behind him to tense up immediately.
Just moments ago, when Ye Zhongming brushed past these few men, a sliver of killing intent had surged within him; he could take them all out and monopolize whatever was inside.
But to be honest, Ye Zhongming didn’t have much confidence. The female police officer was obviously professionally trained, and while she might not physically compare to a one-star evolver, her combat skills and marksmanship could definitely match Ye Zhongming’s. If he acted rashly, it was uncertain who would win.
More importantly, even after ten years in the apocalypse, Ye Zhongming was still not the kind of executioner who could kill kindred for any reason. Deep down, he retained humanity and principles. He couldn’t bring himself to kill these fellow humans in such uncertain circumstances.
