“They launched their most powerful attack, briefly stopping the invasion of the space storm, and then pushed me outward.”
Chao Yang did not continue with what happened next, but Ye Zhongming could guess. In such a terrifying space storm, even a giant dragon at the peak realm would appear quite fragile; their strongest attack could probably only hold it off for a moment.
If they used their abilities to hold off the space storm for Chao Yang, then what happened to them...
“When I got close to this gate, it was just me and Qing Mo left. I originally wanted to push it up, but it...”
At this point, Chao Yang paused, and Qing Mo below seemed to move slightly as if its body stirred.
“The dark elemental dragon has a defense capability second only to the starry giant dragon. Qing Mo activated its dark shadow body to block the storm for me and pushed me out of the Gate of Space. Unfortunately, when I tried to pull it out afterward, I wasn’t entirely successful and could only watch helplessly as it got stuck here.”
This trapped dark elemental dragon, Qing Mo, was Chao Yang’s savior. No wonder it wanted to bring it along even while leaving.
“The dark shadow body is a defensive ability that a dark elemental dragon can only use once in its lifetime. To some extent, it serves as an absolute defense. As long as some part of the body remains intact, it can consistently prevent anything from breaking through this ability. Of course, the intact part is not protected by this ability.”
Chao Yang signaled to Red Boy and then soared down into the abyss. Red Boy hurriedly signaled Ye Zhongming to follow, but facing the increasingly closer giant dragon and the space-time passage that represented death within the Dragon Race, it was far from as calm as Chao Yang. Ye Zhongming easily sensed its fear.
As they approached Qing Mo, Ye Zhongming finally got a clear look at this giant dragon. Its body was enormous, larger than Chao Yang, displaying a deep, pure black that seemed to merge with the color of the abyss.
When Ye Zhongming got close to it, the indifference in its eyes sent a chill down his spine. Red Boy was even more useless, trembling until Ye Zhongming gave it a punch to bring it back to its senses.
Chao Yang greeted Qing Mo and then continued downward with Red Boy. Moments later, they arrived at a place where an eerie energy was continuously spilling forth.
There, about one-fifth of Qing Mo's body was stuck, and centered around the trapped section were approximately twenty meters of magical void on both sides, which should be the space-time gate in a closed state.
By now, Ye Zhongming understood Chao Yang's condition; it was undoubtedly to rescue Qing Mo. This task was naturally tricky and nearly impossible. Yet, Ye Zhongming still had some doubts in his heart.
When Qing Mo activated the ability called dark shadow body, since a large portion of its body had already emerged, why was there still a section left behind? Was there a time limit on the opening of the space-time gate?
Since part of its body hadn’t come out and appeared intact, wouldn’t it be possible to reopen the gate to let the rest of its body out?
Did this gate have special conditions for opening and closing?
“You’ve thought of it, haven’t you? I want you to get the part of Qing Mo’s body that’s stuck out,” Chao Yang said, looking at Ye Zhongming. “To avoid having its body severed, Qing Mo has to constantly maintain the dark shadow body state. But you know, even if this ability can be sustained as long as there is energy, it can’t last forever. Qing Mo has to endlessly keep up the energy consumption. Fortunately, it’s at the peak realm and still a dragon; the energy within its body is inherently greater than that of other life forms. Plus, the part that needs to maintain its transformation is just a little over one-fifth, which isn’t too large, so the consumption is relatively low. That’s why it has managed to hold out until now.”
Chao Yang's voice grew somber. “However, Qing Mo has already used up all its skills and attacks just to maintain this state without letting its body be severed. All its needs have been provided by us. In the end, it hardly moves or speaks, just to conserve a little more energy. It is cultivating every moment, but the energy it gains is also being continuously drained.”
