Jennings looked down on this country somewhat, even though he and his company were making a fortune in this land.
He had always thought of the people here as cowardly, greedy, foolish, and subservient.
As for him, Jennings, he came from noble blood; even in the most developed countries, his European royal lineage was enough to earn him respect that other immigrant backgrounds could not enjoy.
Yet now, he found himself trapped in this damned country, associating with these damned yellow-skinned monkeys.
He did not mean to insult the country or its people, for this was simply how he perceived them.
Fortunately, there was still the roulette.
Jennings felt that it was the only favor fate had shown him amidst his miserable existence. A few days after the apocalypse began, he and several of his compatriots started killing zombies.
More than a month later, not only did he become an evolver, but he also garnered a group of capable followers.
Driven by the surging power within him, Jennings began to fantasize about becoming a king, ruling over these inferior races, dominating Europe, and executing a stunning reversal as a side branch of the royal family by wearing a glorious golden crown.
However, his dream faced a slight setback that night when his loyal friends and several subordinates were killed by a group of unreliable Chinese. He sought vengeance.
Despite the rage brewing within him and the almost uncontrollable urge to retaliate, Jennings still managed to suppress himself.
He believed he was rational and wise, far superior to these opponents.
With a condescending gaze and a lofty mindset, he made a final decision.
Let it go for today.
Once he became a two-star evolver, he would settle the score with these people and make them understand that his noble bloodline was not to be trifled with!
Holding the pistol he had obtained from the roulette, Jennings waved his hand, intending to leave. The group opposite him, led by Lu Yi, collectively breathed a sigh of relief.
Bang… gurgle…
A spherical object was thrown over, and in the darkness, crude torches flickered around, their unstable flames providing just enough light to reveal the object on the ground.
It was a human head.
A head still dripping with blood, its open eyes reflecting sheer terror.
“This… Wei Xiaoyong?!”
The pupils of both Lu Yi and Jennings contracted sharply; they recognized this person, who had just swaggered over to watch the commotion moments ago.
A brief scream shattered the temporary silence, drawing the attention of the onlookers to see several people sprawled on the ground—those were the "eyes" left behind by Wei Xiaoyong.
A few individuals approached slowly; Jennings and Lu Yi recognized them as subordinates of Xiao Dong, particularly a woman named Sister Rong.
Although she was also an evolver, Jennings and Lu Yi did not think this woman was worthy of speaking to them. In the apocalypse, status mattered even more than in peacetime.
They unconsciously glanced behind Sister Rong at the shadowy figure that had just killed someone and was now slowly approaching.
In the glow of the fire, a face that was half-human half-demon abruptly caught everyone's attention.
Many were taken aback.
In the middle of the night, a blood-soaked woman with a terrifying visage appeared, and no one could remain calm.
Seeing the expressions of the crowd, Sister Rong knew that the killer who had just arrived was Xia Bai.
With a faint sigh in her heart, she composed herself and said, “I’m here to deliver a message. By sunrise tomorrow, either leave or accept conscription.”
“Not intimidating at all.”
A voice muttered, belonging to Little Tiger, who had just arrived to support Sister Rong.
Sister Rong rolled her eyes at the overly familiar young man.
Jennings and Lu Yi, the two leaders who had been in a standoff moments ago, exchanged glances but did not respond.
They were not naive youngsters and certainly would not think that Sister Rong had lost her mind. Moreover, with Wei Xiaoyong's head lying at their feet, the threat was more significant than anything else.
