Chapter One
Husky felt that, under the premise of not letting himself become a red name, killing two newbies to earn their points was the most cost-effective way.
In other words, everyone should have two killing quotas.
The first one, he planned to use during the first small cycle, while the second... that would have to wait until the final cycle. By then, killing would yield a significant amount of points.
He just didn’t know if, during his studies in the national district, he had ever heard the saying: ideals are abundant, but reality is stark, aside from the need to keep both hands strong.
He brought his seven-man team to confront the national district's number one, who could only dangle his arm.
Husky's eyes were almost red; looking at Ye Zhongming was like gazing at a pile of points.
But the next moment, he was a bit surprised.
Husky was sure that this person saw the seven of them, who were filled with killing intent, yet still ran toward them. The speed was fast, but it was nowhere near the limit for that level of evolution.
At a certain moment, Ye Zhongming turned a corner and swung a punch toward Husky and the others. The punch hit the ground, sending countless mud, dry branches, and leaves flying everywhere, blocking the sunlight and catching Husky and his team off guard, forcing them to slow down and not dare to charge forward.
Clearly, the goal of this national district's number one was the ground, not them. It was obviously intentional, and until they figured out his purpose, no one dared to advance.
At the same time, they heard the footsteps of others approaching quickly, arriving in no time. Husky, who understood Chinese, even caught a phrase.
“If you don’t come, I’m going to be killed.”
Husky was stunned. What did that mean? Did he have backup behind him?
The Hawkins couple, chasing from behind, was also taken aback. What did that mean? Did he have backup in front?
Next, both sides simultaneously discovered that Ye Zhongming had stopped.
Husky: An ambush?
Hawkins: Does he really have help?
Ye Zhongming revealed a smile at the corner of his mouth, and then he raised one arm up. For some reason, his reddening face seemed to feel a release at that moment.
With a boom, a huge shadow appeared above Ye Zhongming's head, startling both Hawkins and Husky, causing them to halt their forward momentum.
It was an enormous shadow that resembled Ye Zhongming, towering as high as a dozen floors, but strangely, the shadow had no arms.
Before they could react, the shadow suddenly exploded.
A dense, almost unbreakable black mist instantly filled a large part of the forest, enveloping both groups.
The speed of the black mist was too fast; everyone only managed to take a step before being enveloped. Each person instinctively held their breath and gathered together.
Clear footsteps echoed, and everyone felt as if they were approaching them.
Then, amidst the darkness, flashes of light flickered, and everyone still felt it was directed towards them.
The lives that were nearly gathered together instinctively spread apart.
Ah!
A scream rang out, followed by the sound of weapons clashing. Everyone tensed up. This tension peaked when one person let out a shriek.
The wind howled, aptly describing the current situation.
Husky suddenly turned his head, his special weapon arm blades buzzing open as he cut sideways, where a sound had passed. The weapon returned empty.
He dashed a few steps in the direction of the sound, and when he felt he was close enough to hit, he struck again, but still missed.
Yaka called out in front, but received no response. Without any hesitation, she swung her long knife down.
First came the sensation of weapon collision, followed by the familiar feeling of cutting into a living being.
Then came the second scream.
These seemed like signals, and battles erupted everywhere. In the pitch-black mist, only the light from skills and weapons occasionally flickered.
About two minutes later, Amus, who had mostly recovered under Hawkins' protection, suddenly reignited the glow surrounding her, and the wings on her equipment fully spread open, maximizing the range of light.
