Chapter Two

Xia Lei squinted, sitting on a swivel chair and gazing out at the beautiful scenery of the villa.

Over the years, what used to be a resort villa had completely transformed into a fortress of war, with traces of various weapons visible everywhere.

However, due to the recruitment of talents, an exceptionally talented planner used his skills to decorate the villa with various trees, greenery, flowers, herbs, and artificial streams, making it a place that, if not resembling a fairyland, at least looked stunning.

In a world filled with the bloodshed of the apocalypse, living in such a picturesque environment was indeed a fortunate thing.

Yet, there were still regrets.

Xia Lei pressed her hand against her belly and sighed inwardly. This place was too disappointing; for several years now, it hadn't given that man any offspring. This was her regret, as well as the regrets of Hatsune and Miya.

With Cloud Summit reaching its current level of development, it had become a superpower. If counting the peripheral members and their families, the population exceeded three million. Such a vast size and number sometimes required an heir to stabilize people's hearts.

Just like those ancient countries, having an heir could guarantee many things.

But, unfortunately, there was none.

Xia Lei felt helpless; this was the helplessness of the entire apocalypse. The fertility rate had plummeted, a problem all evolvers faced. Sister Hong had studied this issue for some time but found no solutions.

Since Ye Zhongming ascended to the heavens, the pile of equipment on the ground had appeared in Xia Lei's dreams like a nightmare every day. She could no longer imagine what life would be like without that man and couldn't picture what she would be like then.

In just ten days, Xia Lei felt as if she was going insane. Worry and fear gnawed at her heart every moment.

Regarding the matter of the nine-star evolver ascending, many pieces of information circulated among the powers qualified to know. Naturally, Xia Lei learned quite a bit and, through these messages, formed her own speculations.

In the All Races of the Universe, each one was an independent entity, intervening in the affairs of Earth as a collective.

They possessed powerful warriors, astonishing technology, and the power to control life and death.

So, what position would Earth hold in the future?

There were only two possibilities: on the good side, if certain conditions were met, it could be accepted into the All Races of the Universe. On the bad side, it could become a colony or even a resource planet-slave planet.

On the positive side, if Earth were accepted, would it exist as an independent entity? Or would it be allowed to participate in its current mixed form, which had evolved over hundreds of thousands of years since the days of primitive people?

Xia Lei felt it should not be the latter. Earth should enter the rules of the other powers as a unified entity.

If it were the negative aspect, then it would be necessary to first break the backbone of the Earthlings, making all life here lose hope of resistance.

But regardless of which, Xia Lei felt one thing was imperative.

That was unity!

Same force, same leader, same decision, same voice... the same person!

This force had to be Cloud Summit, and this voice, this leader, this person had to be her man.

He went to the heavens to negotiate with those from the All Races of the Universe, so these matters must be handled by herself.

Xia Lei wasn't particularly an ambitious woman. Before Ye Zhongming's departure, she thought managing her own small territory was enough. The life she longed for was simply to raise children and occasionally deal with things that displeased her man.

But now, every time she looked up at the sky, she felt an intense sense of crisis deep in her bones.

What was happening to her man? What dangers was he facing at this moment? He feared combat, but what about facing an entire race? What to do? Was his situation related to Earth's plight?
