Chapter
North of the city. In the sky, a gigantic yellow talisman floated like a flag waving in the wind. From it, various Wind Blades constantly emerged, wreaking havoc on the people on the city wall.
It was indeed a form of devastation because the talisman was positioned directly above the wall, making it impossible for the wall's defenses to retaliate. Only the weapons and skills of the evolvers could target it.
Not to mention whether most attacks could reach such heights; even if they did hit, the talisman seemed completely unaffected. On the contrary, the more they attacked it, the stronger its counterattacks became, resulting in an increasing number of Wind Blades.
In the end, the defenders on the wall were forced to endure its rampage.
As if that wasn't enough, a massive thick log was hovering above the ground, violently slamming into the city gate. The energy shield above it was already dim, clearly unable to last much longer.
The Commander of North City had no idea how the other walls were faring; all he knew was that he felt completely stifled.
Everyone was trying various methods to defend against the incessant Wind Blades falling, and at least eighty percent of the wall was within their attack range. They could run to the remaining twenty percent of the wall, but that wouldn’t help with the massive log that was continuously battering the city gate. Without their interference, it was obvious that the gate wouldn't hold for long. Once the gate was breached, the Holy City would be in danger.
The Commander was caught in such a dilemma, unsure of how to resolve it. The progression of events gave him a sense of slow, agonizing death.
“Have you seen who it is?”
The Commander of North City threw out a purple card, which instantly transformed into a shining metal shelter that blocked a section of the wall.
Watching the Wind Blades strike against it and hearing the sounds of impact made his heart bleed.
This piece of equipment was something he had spent a large sum of money on; it was one of only two golden pieces in his possession. Its main purpose wasn’t defense, but recovery. Inside, he could quickly regain stamina and mental energy and even had some minor healing effects for external injuries.
Now, he was forced to use it to defend against the Wind Blades, which felt like a complete waste.
But he had no choice because he needed to ascertain the enemy's location.
It was almost laughable; the Wind Blades had already killed countless defenders on the city wall, and the protective shield of the city gate was on the verge of shattering, yet he still didn’t know where the attacker was! This issue had to be clarified first; otherwise, how could he make the right decision?
The person he was questioning had a profession skill related to vision, but his observation and search required some time.
“I found her!” the person exclaimed excitedly half a minute later, but then his voice changed slightly.
“It’s… it’s a woman, right in front of their camp.”
“By herself?!” The Commander was momentarily stunned.
He had always thought it must be some extremely high-level equipment or a team skill.
“Yes, that woman… wait, she seems to be preparing to attack again.”
As the person spoke, the yellow talisman above suddenly vanished. Before the defenders of the Holy City could rejoice, another red talisman appeared.
From it, large amounts of flames began to erupt.
Then, fireballs began to rain down one after another, covering the entire northern wall in an instant.
It was a storm of fireballs.
The raindrops were the size of human heads.
If the Wind Blades were like assassins, then the fireballs were akin to mages.
The entire North City Wall was immediately engulfed in flames.
Seeing his metal shelter melting, the Commander of North City twisted his face in agony, shouting at his subordinate beside him, “Did you see wrong?! All of this is caused by that woman?!”
The subordinate was trembling in fear; his evolution level was low, only five stars. He was needed for his visual skills, serving as the eyes of the team.
