Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 1744: Ten Thousand Men Defender 🛡️

Published: February 12, 2025

At the foot of the war fortress, there were rows of warriors holding grenade launchers. They pulled the triggers, and a rocket shot out from the launchers, tracing a beautiful bright arc in the air as it roared toward the city gate.

This was the V3 Grenade Launcher, an upgraded version of the previous model, more powerful and with a longer range.

Of course, it was also much more expensive, with each one requiring five times the merit points of the previous model, and all the rockets followed the same pricing.

Thanks to the recent high-level mutated life forms hunted by Cloud Summit and Ye Zhongming, along with other rewards, a substantial amount of points had accumulated in the merit medals. Ye Zhongming exchanged for two thousand rockets in one go, each equipped with plentiful ammunition—up to twenty rounds!

For this offensive operation toward the West, Ye Zhongming had invested a significant amount.

In the sky and on the ground, these weapons were aimed at the Holy City’s sturdy metal gates. If they could breach it, perhaps success in today’s city assault would be half assured.

Numerous bright lights shot out from the walls of the Holy City. In the night, illuminated by the “flare shells,” they exuded a dazzling array of colors.

At the same time, something unknown erupted from the central area of the Holy City, above the City Lord's Mansion, creating blossoms of light that resembled fireworks. These blossoms transformed into swift beams of light, shooting rapidly outside the city, targeting the incoming missiles and rockets.

Explosions were heard just seconds after Cloud Summit initiated the attack.

The tremendous sounds and flashes of light sent shivers down the spines of the evolvers in the Holy City, who hadn’t heard such sounds for many years.

They weren’t truly afraid; it was the shadows left in their hearts by this familiar sound during peacetime.

The Jingjue Floating Spheres, war fortresses, and grenade launchers all began their second wave of attacks, followed by counterattacks within the Holy City.

Air strikes and defenses, missiles and counter-missile systems, both sides engaged in direct confrontation under these circumstances.

After the second wave of attacks, Cloud Summit suddenly ceased fire. The Jingjue Floating Spheres retreated into the protection of their formations, and the Cloud Summit warriors carrying V3 Grenade Launchers shouldered their weapons, grabbed their ammunition boxes, and ran back to their lines.

A silence descended on the battlefield that shouldn’t have existed.

What was happening?

Not only were the people inside the Holy City puzzled, but the defending soldiers felt the same way.

Under the illumination of the flares, they could vaguely see the Easterners in the distance, but couldn’t make out what they were doing.

Atop the City Lord's Mansion, about a dozen people stood there, one of whom was manipulating a square device. His hands were immersed in this equipment, and he wore a pair of black glasses through which light beams flickered continuously.

“What’s going on with them?”

A person in a white robe looked up at the sky, speculating about the reason behind the Easterners’ ceasefire.

If it were due to the nighttime, the flares that were still slowly ascending had already met the light requirements, making it no different for the evolvers than during the day.

“Are they out of ammunition? They’re using all firearms, which are relics from peacetime, so there shouldn’t be much left!”

The roulette technology had Earth weapons, but certainly not in such large quantities. Even with over six years to accumulate, it wouldn’t be possible to stockpile this much. In the previous two waves of attacks, just the most expensive surface-to-air missiles had launched forty from four aircraft!

And those missiles fired from a gigantic machine, more than a hundred from all four directions.

There were even thousands of rockets!

Such weapons would only become available with a level four or higher roulette, and most were items that disappeared upon acquisition. How many times would one have to spin to get so many?
