King Mei Buning looked at the Fallen Canyon amidst the snowstorm, feeling as if he had hit rock bottom.
It was already the agreed-upon gathering time, but out of the fifty thousand warriors expected, only over twenty thousand had arrived, leaving more than half absent.
Although some messages had come in, saying they would arrive in a day or two, even with those included, the total barely reached thirty thousand.
But what about the remaining twenty thousand?
He had sensed something was amiss days earlier because several organizations that were supposed to rendezvous with them had vanished without a trace.
King Mei Buning was waiting for news.
Even though the scouts he sent out had yet to return, he already had his suspicions in mind: those who hadn’t come were likely to be in grave danger.
King Mei Buning did not understand who was opposing him. Who had the strength to kill so many of his comrades in such a short time?
The first thought that crossed his mind was, of course, Black Dragon City.
However, King Mei Buning was reluctant to believe that it was these people from the national districts who had done it.
He could not deny that the evolvers from Black Dragon City had strong overall power, with a large number of warriors.
Yet, like many of his compatriots, King Mei Buning had always believed that the evolvers from Black Dragon City were not ambitious, content with guarding the excellent hunting grounds both inside and outside the city while seeking comfort in a safe existence, which wasted such a great opportunity.
Meanwhile, the great warriors of the Northern Country had to struggle against the weather and mutated life forms in the freezing cold.
It was unfair!
It could not be denied that the people of Black Dragon City had some backbone; they weren’t scared off and agreed to a decisive battle in Fallen Canyon.
But, would they have the courage to venture into the northern region to ambush his troops?
King Mei Buning felt it was unlikely.
The people of Black Dragon City must have believed that their numbers gave them an advantage, which is why they were willing to engage in an overall decisive battle, but they wouldn’t dare to penetrate the icy plains to launch an attack on his subordinates.
To kill twenty thousand people, Black Dragon City would at least need to deploy a hundred thousand warriors! That was King Mei Buning’s confidence in his own troops.
But if a hundred thousand entered the icy plains, he would definitely notice.
If it wasn’t Black Dragon City, then who could it be?
“King!”
A voice came from behind, and from the sound of it, he knew it was one of his subordinates.
He should have brought the news he wanted; King Mei Buning didn’t turn around but simply nodded slightly.
“The brave warriors sent to investigate Black Dragon City have returned, and they found no signs of their mobilization, not even signs of gathering.”
Upon hearing this, King Mei Buning snorted coldly. These cowards from the national districts, as the day of the decisive battle approached, still weren’t preparing. Were they afraid to fight?
If that was the case, then the reason so many of his subordinates hadn’t arrived must be due to others.
But who could it be? Could it be those from further north? Or perhaps a large-scale army of mutated life forms?
Thinking of these two possibilities made King Mei Buning’s head throb.
“Some of the brave warriors who went to search for our team have returned; they discovered the Ural Battle Team, the Rosduff Battle Team, the Anjie Battle Team…”
He listed more than ten battle team names in one breath.
“All these battle teams have been completely annihilated, with no survivors. The confirmed death toll exceeds three thousand. Judging by the wounds, it was done by evolvers, mostly through ambushes. No enemy corpses were found; they must have taken them all away.”
King Mei Buning’s face twitched a couple of times. Among these forces, there were several battle teams he valued highly, with leaders who were all seven-star evolvers—very promising—but now they were all dead!
