The few students were momentarily stunned by the question, and it took them several seconds to react.
“I, I didn’t see…” one student said softly, his face slightly embarrassed, clearly feeling guilty for not having helped after Ye Zhongming saved him.
Ye Zhongming’s gaze shifted to the others, who also shook their heads, admitting they saw the bright light but didn’t pay much attention to where it landed.
Outside, downstairs, and throughout the campus, there were man-eating monsters, with blood, severed limbs, and corpses everywhere. These privileged students, sheltered in their ivory towers, were on the verge of psychological collapse. They were more eager for rescue than concerned about the strange light outside.
Feeling slightly disappointed, Ye Zhongming realized he would have to search for it himself. Fortunately, this was his alma mater; although the campus was not small, he was familiar with it and could find it eventually, even if it might take some time and increase the chances of someone else getting there first.
However, this was unavoidable. From the moment the apocalypse began, surviving in this bloody hell meant not only having powerful strength but also extraordinary luck.
“It seems that Teacher Park said she saw it,” a male student wearing gold-rimmed glasses and dressed in expensive clothes suddenly spoke up, causing Ye Zhongming’s eyes to brighten.
“Who is Teacher Park?” Ye Zhongming, covered in blood and wielding a machete, asked.
“That’s our class adviser, who is stuck in the classroom with us. She’s over there,” the student quickly pointed to the classroom they had just escaped from.
So, Teacher Park was still trapped inside the classroom.
To save or not to save?
Looking at the small square gathering nearly a hundred zombies, Ye Zhongming frowned.
He could take down all those zombies, but he couldn’t guarantee he wouldn’t get hurt. Until he obtained immunity to the zombie virus, even a minor injury was no different from death.
Rationally, he shouldn’t take this risk. But the allure of the Secret Realm Key was too great; he feared that after delaying for some time, someone else would beat him to it.
After weighing the options, Ye Zhongming made his decision.
Save her!
Even if it was a risk, he wouldn’t give up the hope of obtaining the Secret Realm Key. The temptation of the Secret Realm was just too great.
“Do you see the three-story building of the Armed Department?” Ye Zhongming pointed at a somewhat dilapidated building on the other side; that was the school's Armed Department office, which also served as a warehouse. It was usually busy during the new students' military training, but there were very few people at other times.
“Let’s hide there,” he said.
Upon hearing this, the long-haired beauty immediately panicked. She was not very old, but she had survived in society for a while; her mind was clear despite her fear. Compared to this man, these skinny college students were nothing but weaklings, likely to trip while escaping. It was better for her to rely on her own strength. Being with these hand-tied students? Wasn’t that a joke? Their safety level would drop to negative!
“You can’t leave me behind!” the long-haired beauty exclaimed in desperation, attempting to grab Ye Zhongming, but she hesitated under his piercing gaze and withdrew her hand, feeling a bit intimidated by her savior.
Thinking quickly, she raised the mutated willow branch in her hand and said, “I still need to hold onto this for you.”
“Aren’t you Liang Chuyin?” a student suddenly shouted, recognizing the long-haired beauty whom they all found familiar.
As others heard this, they recalled that this beauty, now looking pleading and even a bit flattering, was indeed the goddess in the hearts of these semi-reclusive boys—an online singer, a popular model, a print advertisement figure, and a fashionable game spokesperson, with millions of fans online!
Even in this perilous situation, as the zombie horde gradually approached, the appearance of someone they could only fantasize about—someone to whom they could only send crude gestures while wasting tons of tissue—made their adrenaline spike and sent them into a frenzy.
