Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 141: Counterattack 🔥

Published: February 5, 2025

After Ye Zhongming ran out of the East District, he found that the entire base was in chaos. Many survivors thought that zombies had broken in and were running around like headless flies. Some people even began to take advantage of the situation, snatching food and water from others, grabbing magic crystals, and even starting to kill and set fires, violating women.

Crying, shouting, wailing, and roaring filled the air, causing the entire base to fall into complete turmoil.

He encountered many people face-to-face; they were filled with tension and despair, fleeing aimlessly in all directions. Occasionally, flashlights or battery-powered lights swept through, but they served no purpose in illuminating the area. Instead, when people occasionally caught a glimpse of their surroundings, they became even more anxious and restless.

Ye Zhongming slowed down. At this moment, running too fast would increase the chances of being spotted.

He didn't know how long the hellhounds could hold off hundreds of fully armed soldiers, but he knew that as long as he wasn’t discovered now, those soldiers would never catch him.

This chaotic crowd was his best cover.

Suddenly, gunfire erupted not far away. Ye Zhongming turned back to see Chef Jin and the others had already chased out, but upon meeting the crowd, their group was immediately engulfed.

Evolvers had become accustomed to wreaking havoc in the base. Seeing so many ordinary people in their way, a few couldn't help but open fire. This move was like poking a hornet's nest; what was initially a stream of chaos immediately turned into a turbulent ocean.

Ye Zhongming suddenly stopped, a murderous intent rising in his eyes.

“Fools!” Chef Jin’s massive body stood firm like a mountain. He knew that his subordinates’ reckless firing had completely instilled fear in the crowd, making it even more chaotic. Finding that person in the wildly running mob was nearly impossible.

But Chef Jin and Director Wang did not want to give up. Since things were already this chaotic… A sharp glint flashed in Chef Jin’s eyes as he raised his iron rod.

Ah!

Suddenly, a scream came from not far away, making Chef Jin pause. That familiar voice belonged to one of his evolver subordinates. Could it be that his subordinate had been harmed by the rioters?

He looked in that direction, but apart from heads, he couldn’t see anything. Chef Jin frowned and pushed through the crowd.

With his strength, no one could stop him.

After taking a few steps, Chef Jin caught a whiff of blood. His heart sank. He punched and kicked away the people around him and saw his subordinate sitting on the ground, clutching his chest. Blood was already pooling nearby, and his eyes were wide open, unable to close even in death.

Chef Jin crouched down and pulled away his subordinate's hand covering the wound. Using a bit of light, he could clearly see that his subordinate had been stabbed directly in the heart with a sharp weapon. The wound was smooth and neat, and it was obvious this was a lethal strike, clean and quick, with no mess.

Only another evolver could kill an evolver in such a decisive manner!

Chef Jin and Director Wang, who had rushed over, had extremely grim faces. After exchanging glances, Director Wang gritted his teeth and said, “If we didn’t catch him in the sparsely populated East District, we’ve lost our chance. Now, we might become someone else’s prey.”

Chef Jin forced a smile; he never expected that person would be so bold, not only escaping amidst the chaos but also striking at them.

How much courage and audacity did that take?

They had seven or eight evolvers, and there were still hundreds of soldiers with guns around!

“You! Ah!”

Another scream came from the other side, and the two leaders of the new district base immediately realized that yet another of their evolver subordinates had been killed.

Chef Jin let out a strange cry from his throat. His mountain-like body stood up, seizing an assault rifle from a nearby soldier, and opened fire towards the direction where the scream had come from.
