Gou Hai was filled with righteous indignation, but deep down he was already overjoyed.
With nearly two thousand diamond coins in his pocket, even after settling matters with the city guards that had just arrived, he would still have fifteen hundred left. This amount was equivalent to several years of his income.
He never expected that such a windfall would fall into his lap today. Gou Hai was already fantasizing about what he could do with this money. He could put some of his old ideas into practice, purchase some precious materials, and once the experiments succeeded, he could create better tools, sell them for higher prices, and earn more profits.
With this would come increased fame, leading to a virtuous cycle of earning money and creating new products.
A bright future was beckoning him.
Oh right, he also needed to hire a few capable bodyguards. The people around him now were only slightly stronger than Indy’s group. Given the current situation, he couldn't just kill Indy and the others; otherwise, people would become suspicious, and he would have to worry about their revenge. It was better to have more capable hands around him for peace of mind.
As Gou Hai was lost in thought, he suddenly noticed that it had become much quieter around him. He looked over and found a person blocking the shop's entrance, with a female member of Indy’s team standing next to this person.
No wonder one of the captured individuals was missing.
“There’s also her; she’s in cahoots with them!” Gou Hai quickly walked up to the city guard leader, pointing at Yaqin and shouting.
The city guards were somewhat similar to the police; they were directly responsible to the city council, not only managing public security but also responsible for city defense and tax collection, which meant they wielded significant power.
Even though this shop wasn’t located in the most bustling area, it was far more developed than many places, and the leader of the city guards responsible for this street had a certain level of status.
Upon hearing Gou Hai's shouts, the leader frowned slightly. He had been polite because Gou Hai was a craftsman, similar in status to a noble, and he wanted to give him some face. But that didn’t mean he needed to cater to Gou Hai’s whims; Gou Hai's anxious tone and commanding demeanor made the leader feel quite uncomfortable.
In fact, Gou Hai was worried about Yaqin, fearing that something might go wrong. He was well aware that he would have to curry favor with the leader of the city guards in this district after this incident.
“Ye…”
Indy and the others, captured and held by the guards, were pleasantly surprised to see Ye Zhongming arrive. However, upon realizing that there was no evidence to exonerate them, they felt that Ye Zhongming's arrival would be of no use. They might even implicate others in the Red Scarf Fruit incident, which made them anxious.
Seeing these honest adventurers, bruised and battered, signaling him to leave quickly, Ye Zhongming felt a warmth in his heart. Though this wasn’t the apocalypse, it was still a cruel world. Humans were not at the top of the food chain, and in a world where survival was still a struggle, maintaining such a pure heart was not easy.
Ye Zhongming waved his hand. His status as the Cloud Summit King over the years naturally gave him an undeniable aura.
“Who are you? Where did you come from?”
Gou Hai saw a stranger and dismissed him, launching into reprimands. However, he was interrupted by a gesture from the city guard leader.
The leader squinted, his blue eyes matching his hair, and seriously scrutinized Ye Zhongming.
He instantly recognized that this was an outsider.
Throughout the history of Bourbon Free Territory, there had always been outsiders appearing, and at certain times, their numbers would suddenly increase.
Some of these individuals quickly faded into the annals of history, but others left behind significant reputations.
There were good ones, but more often than not, there were bad ones.
