Life will find its own way. This is a famous saying by a scientist faced with the changes of the apocalypse.
As the mutations began, mutated bedbugs and willow trees appeared one after another, confirming the correctness of this statement. As the original inhabitants of Earth, humanity naturally would not lag behind.
Although the apocalypse had only just begun for a few hours, many people had already realized the impending end of the world through the still operational internet, phones, televisions, radios, and their own experiences. They began to strive to adapt to this drastic change.
However, this process of adaptation also served as a touchstone for humanity, revealing both the sacred light of kindness and the brutal and selfish instincts born of evil.
Just like the scene unfolding at this very moment on the second floor of the cafeteria.
The staircase leading to the first-floor hall was blocked by piles of tables, nearly a hundred zombies were stuck between the first and second floors on the landing, allowing the table legs to pierce their bodies, while their eyes were fixated only on the tender flesh above.
âFifth Brother, is it really going to be fine? The police wonât just show up tomorrow, right?â
A young man dressed in oil-stained jeans crouched in front of the man known as Fifth Brother, his face anxious, glancing nervously toward a corner of the cafeteria.
In that corner, a pile of scattered tables and chairs surrounded an area where a pale body lay. The girl stared blankly at the ceiling, as if everything was unrelated to her. Her youthful, delicate body was covered in bruises, and there was some blood beneath her thighs, with remnants of menâs filth stuck to her flat abdomen.
All of this indicated that this flower-like girl had just suffered inhuman treatment and torment.
Fifth Brotherâs eyes widened, making the scar on his forehead look even more menacing. He kicked the cowboy youth, sending him tumbling backward.
âDamn, when you were howling with pleasure just now, you didnât think about the police. Now that youâve finished, you remember the police?â
The kicked youth stood up awkwardly, seeing his other three companions laughing carelessly, feeling embarrassed.
Fifth Brother stood up, revealing a robust body like a mountain. On his bare back was a tattoo of a black Western dragon, which seemed to come alive and want to soar every time his muscles twitched.
He approached the cowboy youth, yanked him by the collar, and dragged him to the stairs, pointing at the increasingly agitated zombies and saying, âEr Peng, do you see? People have turned into this. Many have turned into this. Can there still be police? Have you seen Resident Evil? Itâs just like in the movies! This is the biggest! Police, my ass!â
Fifth Brother gestured with his fists and released his subordinate Er Peng, scratching himself awkwardly, and asked his four followers, âWhat do you think is that shiny stuff on the zombies' foreheads?â
The subordinates huddled together, pointing and commenting on the zombies, but couldnât figure anything out, which annoyed Fifth Brother.
They originally were local thugs, and today they coincidentally came to the university town for barbecue, but they encountered the beginning of the apocalypse and saw people around them turn into zombies, beginning to eat others. In panic, they fled into the university, following many students into the cafeteria.
At that time, only the first floor of the cafeteria was open, so no one was on the second floor. After they climbed to the second floor, they blocked the stairs with tables, finally managing to block the zombies.
However, Fifth Brother and his four subordinates were not good people to begin with. In peacetime, there were laws and enforcement agencies to restrain them. Now that everything was in chaos and even man-eating monsters had appeared, their sinister desires surged.
After waiting for several hours on the second floor of the cafeteria, when they realized that there was no rescue coming and no police, and through the internet learned that this was a global disaster, with governments around the world in paralysis, they extended their claws toward the students hiding in the cafeteria.
