Chapter 1140: Frost Beast 🥶

Published: February 11, 2025

“Is this another resting point?” Due to the resource points, Ye Zhongming preferred to refer to these places between two adventure areas as resting points.

This was naturally not a design choice made by the brightwater realm for the sake of humanity, but rather a more reasonable design—if the life forms that designed this place truly wanted others to complete their adventures.

Garan nodded and pointed ahead, saying, “If you walk a little further, you'll see a crystal mine where frost beasts start to appear. The deeper you go, the more numerous they become. Because the area is limited, they will be very densely packed. When I reach a point where I can encounter a frost beast, I can only proceed about twenty meters before I can no longer hide my tracks. Once exposed, I will have to retreat when facing two frost beasts alone.”

While explaining the situation to Ye Zhongming, Garan’s gaze occasionally drifted to the two needle birds... oh no, ice birds, as Ye Zhongming had just renamed them.

Garan still could not understand how these magical life forms came into being.

“What do frost beasts' attacks look like?”

Ye Zhongming was more concerned about this.

“I’ve seen three types,” Garan replied, speaking cautiously without being overly definitive, leaving room for adjustment, which served as a reminder for Ye Zhongming to be better prepared for any surprises.

“The first type is their speed. They move very swiftly and erratically. They don’t often move, but once they do, it’s extremely fast and very direct, almost instantly appearing right in front of you to attack with ice blades formed from ice mist.”

As she said this, Ye Zhongming recalled the damage on Garan's battle armor, which he assumed was caused by these ice blades.

“These frost beasts, which float like ghosts without arms and legs, have a very high tolerance for attacks. At least my attacks do not cause them much damage, including my fire-based abilities.”

Garan did not continue with the second type of attack but instead revealed a characteristic of the frost beasts. Seeing Ye Zhongming nodding, she continued, “Like the Ice Passage, the second type of attack from frost beasts is the spraying of ice mist, which also emanates from their bodies. However, unlike the holes in the Ice Passage, the mist from the frost beasts is solid-like, with extremely low temperatures. Rather than ice mist, it would be more accurate to call it ice pillars, and there are also those damn ice insects within.”

“Is there a range limit?”

According to Garan, this attack was a spray of ice mist, so what if there was some distance between them? Or if the target began to dodge? Would the spraying distance of these ice mists extend?

“No, but these creatures will gain speed when they spray the ice mist.”

Garan repeated this, emphasizing the deep impression the frost beasts’ speed had left on her.

“The third type is a collective skill-like ability.”

“A collective skill?” Ye Zhongming asked in surprise, not expecting monsters in the brightwater realm to possess such capability.

“Yeah,” Garan said with a hint of fear on her face, “when these frost beasts are injured and feel their lives are in danger, they quickly burrow into the bodies of other frost beasts. As for whether they enter to heal or get absorbed by their companions, I can’t say.”

Ye Zhongming furrowed his brows, feeling that something was off.

He certainly wasn’t suggesting that Garan had misjudged; these frost beasts didn’t possess any illusion-type abilities.

So what was wrong?

He regretted not asking that person for more details back then, as it left him with limited understanding of this place now.

“Let’s go.”

As he spoke, Ye Zhongming abandoned his thoughts. Since he couldn’t find inspiration to pinpoint what was wrong, he decided to keep moving forward, as that was the original intent.

“Stick close to me, try not to engage, and hide yourself as much as possible.”
