Chapter 1044: Shield of the Sky 🌌

“Block them!”

Xia Lei, holding dual daggers, stood among the guards. Seeing so many Kena Sky Knights swooping into the city from the attacking Order of the Radiant Winged Ones, she immediately guessed what was happening and knew she had to stop them.

The Guangyao Squad, which had been at the back and hadn’t taken action yet, all raised their firearms to focus their fire on the Kena Sky Knights.

When it came to marksmanship, the members of the Guangyao Squad were far superior to the other squads at Cloud Summit. Most of the ammunition produced by the newly introduced bullet production line was allocated to them. Even the graded bullets manufactured by Ye Zhongming, the Guangyao Squad received half of the total, while the other half was shared among the other squads.

They hadn’t taken action before because, although the Order of the Radiant Winged Ones was intensively attacking Cloud Summit, Cloud Summit still had some strength left. Furthermore, the Kena Sky Knights weren’t descending low enough, and both Xia Lei and Guangyao wanted to achieve greater results by waiting for a more suitable moment.

However, upon seeing them flying directly toward the city, they absolutely couldn’t let this happen.

A sea of gunfire lit up the sky; bullets sliced through the air, emitting a familiar smell of gunpowder. The firepower net composed of gray-level firearms and gray-level bullets immediately caused the Kena Sky Knights to drop one after another.

This forced the Kena Sky Knights, who had initially dived downward, to ascend again and retaliate with throwing spears, slowing their advance.

“We must charge through!”

Zai Li, clad in silver armor and wielding a silver spear while riding his purple-headed griffon, led the guard squad to the sky above the Winged Ones, greatly boosting the morale of the entire team.

“We can't let the one who used the large-scale holy light technique live!”

The firm command escaped his lips, but confusion lingered in Zai Li's eyes.

Why did these outsiders possess such pure light energy? This was supposed to be unique to the Holy Father and the Holy Maiden.

Following Zai Li's order, some members of the guard squad pulled out metal cylindrical objects about fifty centimeters in diameter and thirty centimeters high, hanging from their mounts, and threw them toward the Cloud Summit defense line, especially aimed at the Guangyao Squad.

These cylinders emitted a piercing drone as they fell; after a few seconds of descent, they produced a clicking sound and changed shape from cylindrical to square metal plates.

This transformation astonished the newcomers from Earth; undoubtedly, this was a marvel of mechanical design.

The metal plates began to spin and from the holes on top, launched ‘ropes’ made from the internal tendons of some unknown magical monster. One end of these ropes remained attached to the plates, while the other end floated in the air. Once it touched a nearby metal plate of the same kind, it would immediately stick together with an exceptional grip.

In this way, the metal plates transformed from cylinders into a connected metal net in the sky. As they flew, the distance between them grew smaller until they ultimately stuck together with those ropes, forming a large shield.

The spectators below were momentarily stunned.

Is this even possible?

The appearance of these two large metal plates immediately suppressed the firepower from Cloud Summit to the extreme. Bullets hit the plates with a clanging sound and produced a shower of sparks, losing the terrifying killing effect they previously had.

The winged ones, who had been heavily battered by the rain of bullets, used the cover of these metal plates to rush out of the city wall range. Although the Guangyao Squad continued to attack persistently after they left the protection of the metal plates, causing more Kena Sky Knights to fall from the rear, over seven hundred members of the Winged Ones still flew out of range, heading toward Park Soo-young's direction.
