Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 1014: The True Enemy 🛡️

Ahmed was filled with confidence because he hadn't failed in a long time.

Ever since he injected the One-Star Evolution Elixir, the world had shown him immense favor, allowing him to be reborn and take his place among humans.

This included his current operation.

In his eyes, those Chinese people were nothing but a bunch of fools, who would ultimately only add glory to his throne.

So even while on the move, he didn’t give up on entertainment.

For example, he enjoyed watching beautiful women dance gracefully, listening to traditional artists play the oud, and indulging in fine wines, cigarettes, and luxurious clothing.

Ahmed believed that only in this way could he approach or even surpass the kings of history.

Thus, when the team suddenly issued a warning upon encountering sand-type monsters, he was stunned for a moment before revealing a contemptuous smile.

"In the desert, where is there not such a thing? Just clean them out."

No one dared to disobey the king's orders, so commands were immediately issued, and the battle commenced across the vast desert.

Naturally, the ones to take action were the slave army.

Although their name contained the derogatory term "slave," these units were indeed the backbone of the Holy City’s forces.

The core and backbone of these units mostly came from the royal family, typically those royal branches with diluted bloodlines or servant clans that had worked and sworn loyalty to the royal family for generations.

They continued to serve the royal family, upholding the oaths and habits of peacetime. Of course, their own interests were equally intertwined, even more so than in peacetime.

However, the word "slave" could not merely represent these individuals; its true meaning labeled the ordinary soldiers as slaves.

This phenomenon, which was hard to imagine even in peacetime, should have completely disappeared in the lawless apocalypse, yet here it thrived against the odds.

Religion and faith can sometimes erupt with almost perverse influence and control; those not involved cannot comprehend it at all.

Since King Ahmed had given the order, one of the three slave armies confronted what seemed to be a relatively small number of sand-type monsters.

The battle went smoothly, and within just a dozen minutes, all the appearing sand-type monsters were eliminated with minimal losses for the slave army, and they also obtained quite a few next magic crystals. Everything seemed wonderful.

However, trouble soon followed. As the team advanced, more and more sand-type monsters appeared, and battles began to occur frequently.

Even the bloodshed from the fighting attracted some mutated life forms lurking in the desert, joining in the assault on this human army.

A shadow fell over many hearts.

“Send someone ahead to see what’s going on.”

No matter how many detestable habits Ahmed had, after sitting on the throne for countless years, he realized that things might have changed in ways he was temporarily unaware of.

Several small teams set out on different routes towards the front.

But half an hour passed, and no information came back.

Something was wrong!

At this moment, everyone knew something had gone awry.

Inside the beast cart, the core members were discussing what to do when they heard shouts from outside, voices filled with evident fear.

Ahmed moved and leaped out of the beast cart. He looked around and saw the soldiers gazing up at the sky. Looking up himself, he saw a massive spherical object radiating golden light approaching rapidly from the distance.

What terrified these West Asians was that this aerial vehicle was flying while dropping objects onto the ground—bloodied, dismembered human corpses.

Many thought of the sand-type monsters, and their hearts sank.

Seconds later, the golden sphere finally passed over the hills in front of the troop, hovering above the humans, and then… the hatch opened, spilling a large amount of blood and pieces of flesh.

The smell of blood immediately filled the air.

Several figures appeared at the peak of the hill; they were sand-type monsters, soon followed by more of these mutated life forms rushing down, attracted to the fresher food.
