Doomsday Roulette

Chapter 10: Secret Realm Key 🔑

The sharp scream almost made Ye Zhongming curse.

The decibel level was simply too high, so high that even Mu Xinfey in the basement of the villa might hear it.

In a night overrun by zombies, making such a sound was tantamount to asking for death.

Although Ye Zhongming was there to kill zombies, that didn’t mean he could recklessly trample over them. Not to mention that the stamina limit of a one-star evolver was not high, the fact that he couldn’t yet be immune to the virus made Ye Zhongming extremely cautious.

A reborn person, who had just been reborn for less than a day, dying like this was a disgrace in the history of rebirth.

So Ye Zhongming didn’t even bother to check who had made the scream, rolling on the ground and directly rolling onto the adjacent lawn, then leaping with all his might to vault over a half-man-high bush wall to the other side of the corridor.

“Help me!”

An urgent female voice came from behind, and it was clearly the one who had screamed.

Ten years of the apocalypse had hardened Ye Zhongming's heart like iron, and hearing the call for help did not stir the slightest ripple in his heart. He glanced around and saw that zombies were already coming over one after another because of the scream. He chose a direction with fewer zombies and quietly made his way past.

However, Ye Zhongming hadn’t expected that the owner of the voice would not stop, continuously calling out, “Wait for me! Help! Don’t run!”

If it had been an open space, Ye Zhongming could have easily used his speed to shake off the person behind him, but here in the building area, with its twists and turns, it was relatively small. Moreover, the person behind him didn’t care about any obstacles, charging straight through, so the distance between them widened but didn’t increase significantly.

The result was that the noise created by this person attracted the zombies, who surged toward the two of them, with at least sixty or seventy of them in rough estimate!

With so many zombies, even if they stood still and let you chop at them, it would take some time, not to mention you couldn't let them scratch even a bit of flesh. Ye Zhongming had no confidence in handling this.

Damn it! Ye Zhongming realized that if this situation continued, he might end up here for good. After cursing angrily, he quickly made a decision.

He turned around swiftly and ran toward the source of the voice. Ye Zhongming saw a woman with disheveled hair, dressed in very fashionable clothes, though they were now torn and barely covering her body.

“If you want to live, shut up!”

Ye Zhongming would never be polite to someone who almost got him killed. He dashed to her side and slapped her, silencing her, then pulled her to run in another direction.

Fortunately, the zombies were still in their first level state and weren’t very fast. Ye Zhongming, being a one-star evolver, could almost carry the delicate woman as they ran. After a moment, the two of them managed to escape the horde and slipped into a building with an open unit door.

Closing the security door, Ye Zhongming took a look outside. Not all the zombies had followed, but about twenty were wandering nearby, making it impossible to leave for a short while.

“Th-thank you,”

It was undeniable that the woman's voice was pleasant. Now that they were temporarily safe, Ye Zhongming finally took a good look at her. He found her surprisingly beautiful, with very fair skin, but her eyes still held the lingering fear and panic, along with… a slightly swollen cheek and a faint trickle of blood at the corner of her mouth.

Although he hadn’t used much force, getting slapped by a one-star evolver still hurt…

“I just didn’t want you to get me killed.”

Ye Zhongming coldly replied to her, drawing his knife and cautiously moving toward the corridor. Dimly, he could hear chewing sounds coming from the stairwell.

This woman was still an ordinary person and clearly couldn’t hear those sounds. Seeing Ye Zhongming moving backward, she hurriedly followed him. The feeling of having someone behind him who wasn’t a trusted companion made Ye Zhongming very uncomfortable, so he turned back and warned, “You can follow me, but don’t make a sound, or I’ll kill you.”
