Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody

Chapter 75: Let's Train! 💪

The first half is about the allocation of skill points. If you’re not interested, feel free to skip it.

Correction made on 2/11.

This is Satou. Someone once said that baking sweets is similar to conducting a chemistry experiment.

I think that’s a huge lie—baking requires far more sense and intuition.

Now then, during the past few days of travel, I’ve activated many skills. Even if I allocate skill points to max out every skill I’ve acquired, I still use less than half of my total points. Some skills, like "Appraisal," encompass several subordinate skills, so I excluded those with subtle or overlapping effects.

First, regarding various weapon skills, I’ve already acquired sufficient skills for everything from ranged to unarmed combat, so I’ve put the others on hold for now. However, I did activate the dagger skill additionally because it’s often considered useful in many historical stories and tales.

I activated nearly all physical combat skills. The "Reckless Bravery" skill seems to have too many drawbacks, so it remains disabled. As for Shield Attack (Shield Bash), I wasn’t sure how useful it would be, so I stopped at level 5. If it proves useful later, I can always raise it to max.

Tactical skills didn’t seem very effective to me, but on Arisa’s recommendation, I enabled all of them.

Apparently, combining command and coordination allows party members to perform combo attacks. This is hero-related information, and Arisa herself doesn’t know exactly how to do it, so we’ll have to test it out gradually.

Incidentally, after consulting her, she said, "Learn it when you level up in the labyrinth," so she didn’t expect me to master it immediately.

Most physical movement skills were already active, so I only additionally enabled "Super Strength."

Since I originally had the power to deform iron lumps like clay, I don’t feel stronger yet. I’ll believe it shows when fighting tougher enemies.

No changes for magic skills. It’s pointless to level them up until I can successfully cast spells.

Resistance skills seem to have subtle effects, but I activated them just in case. However, I stopped at level 3 for "Fear Resistance." Somehow, I feel this is a skill better not maxed out. It gives off the same vibe as "Reckless Bravery."

For production skills, I raised "Woodworking," "Leatherworking," "Weapon Crafting," and "Blacksmithing" to level 4. I’m better than the average craftsman but not on par with a master. I maxed out the medicinal skill because I’m afraid to use medicines made by someone less skilled. These skills are enough for repairing daily items or creating substitutes, so I left them at that.

For academic skills, I maxed out "Experiment," "Verification," and "Education," and allocated one level each to "Demon Language," "Gray Rat Tribe Language," and "Green Scale Tribe Language." Others were unimpressive, so no changes.

I didn’t change artistic skills. Arisa confirmed that singing skill and rhythm are unrelated; singing skill conveys the singer’s emotions and moves the audience. I can’t really agree, but if that’s how it works, I won’t argue.

Chanting also rarely succeeds, so maybe I’ll try raising it on a whim later.

For commercial skills, I set "Poker Face," "Persuasion," "Bribery," and "Polite Expressions" to level 5—about the level of an experienced professional.

I haven’t been asked for bribes in Seryu City, but the travelogue I bought earlier says most towns accept bribes. That’s troublesome.

Labor skills barely changed. Apart from maxing "Surveillance" and "Capture," I raised "Train Operation" to level 5.

As for labyrinth-related skills, "Treasure Vault (Item Box)" stayed the same. I raised "Trap Utilization" to level 5 and maxed all the others.

As long as I’m in this world, I can’t avoid labyrinths anyway.

The most troublesome were specialized skills. I enabled those that definitely seem useful, like "Lip Reading" and "Eavesdropping." I hesitated about enabling the darker ones like "Undercover Operations" and "Assassination," but since they could be useful for combat and reconnaissance, I activated them. I decided to put "Conspiracy," "Judgment," and "False Accusation" on hold for now.
