Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody

Chapter 493: Dungeon Core's Melancholy 😔

Published: September 10, 2025

The new master is a strange human tribe.

Despite being a Dungeon Master, they try to leave the labyrinth.

"The Dungeon Master cannot leave the labyrinth."

After displaying that message, I activated the emergency master summoning function and pulled the master back to the master's room.

"It's nothing. I'll be back soon, so you go ahead to the inn first."

Apparently, the new master is also a strange human tribe who talks to invisible people.

"How can I leave the labyrinth?"

The master turned toward me, the dungeon core, and asked.

This place is the safest, so why do they want to go outside?

—Incomprehensible.

"The Dungeon Master is prohibited from leaving the labyrinth."

When I answered that, the master crossed their arms and put on a pondering face.

If they're going to agonize over such an obvious fact, I wish they would at least think up some traps to deal with intruders in the labyrinth.

"How can the Dungeon Master's position be transferred to someone else?"

—Transferred?

I can't understand the master’s line of thought.

Perhaps the human tribe cannot think logically?

But since the master asked, I must answer.

I am something that obeys the master.

"It is impossible. The position only becomes vacant upon the death of the Dungeon Master."

Hearing my answer, the master frowned.

I could hear them muttering softly, "Such an inflexible rule."

Though limited to the labyrinth, the position of Dungeon Master wields god-like omnipotent power. The mere thought of someone wanting to pass it on to another is truly unexpected.

—Huh?

The master vanished from the master's room.

—No.

They vanished from inside the labyrinth.

Where? Why? How?

I didn't sense any magic power.

If it had been teleportation by spatial magic, which uses enormous magic power, I’m confident I wouldn’t have missed it.

"Master!"

"Master!"

—Master!

Calling out by voice, on the labyrinth’s message board, and even by telepathic wave, the master did not respond.

Even though the position hasn't become vacant by disappearance, my master was gone.

Sending out monsters to explore outside the labyrinth — no, that’s not possible.

The master’s commands take priority.

It’s impossible to send monsters outside.

What should I do? I have to find the master. Master, where are you? What should I do? Master, master, master.

Because my thoughts were circling endlessly, I apparently froze for a long time.

If the dungeon core’s safety circuit hadn’t reset me, I might have self-destructed.

Over a thousand hours have passed since the master disappeared.

The subsystem has been replenishing monsters and traps, so it seems no explorers have pushed this far.

According to the logs, a force led by a Long-Ear Tribe girl repeatedly infiltrated near the lower layers, but were caught in traps the master had set and forced to retreat.

—I was protected by the master.

That fact made my heart feel a certain bond.

—Right.

If the master doesn’t come back, I will go find them.

Using dungeon core authority, I created an exploration homunculus and transferred my consciousness.

"—My body feels heavy."

"Your muscles just aren't used to it yet. You'll feel lighter soon."

Inside the labyrinth, the pass works, so I can receive the homunculus’s current status.

"Go, Core Two."

"Understood, Original."

I sent the exploration homunculus—Core Two—out to the labyrinth’s entrance.

With Core Two’s exploration abilities, it should find my lost master wandering outside.

I then switched into suspend mode to maintain my thought circuits.

Like sleeping in humans, I decided to dream of reuniting with the master.

—Master, please come back soon.
